Hi VJ members,

it is nice to know there is a place like this, cause I ve been stressing out over the whole K-1 process.I pray someone will be there to help put me through. I am new, and in the process of filling the application. My Fiance is in Nigeria and I am hoping to mail my application before the end of this month. My concern are as follows, I went to see him last in August 2010, so we are still in that 2yrs time frame, but it has been over a year, will this become an issue? Also i sent him an invitation later in April 2010 to attend my graduation ceremony and he was denied under the assumption that he wasn't coming back(which i understand)to Nigeria but now that I am applying for K-1 will that be an issue? on the question that asks if you have filled before, is an invitation considered filling?? cause I answered no. Also, from experience how much did you guys have to show as financial support when it came down to showing proof? Do you have to have over $15,000 in your account as some people have said or just show that you have earned that much. I know I am over thinking alot, but I just want to do an accurate assessment prior to starting the process. Also, does/did anyone use that Ibuyphonecard.com service to call?? I ask because their info on phone bill is a local assess # and with what I ve read about Lagos they re very strict. Thank you, and I look forward to reading response/advice. Also, heads up that I will probably be asking more questions. Thank you

Yes you are still in 2yrs time frame.

It's $13,500 annual income for 2 people. You could include your other assets like car, mortgage, insurance as well, yes include bank account and pay stub but that's later on once the application has been approved.

Usually people that find this site are over-thinkers so that's normal. We all are. As long as you've met once within the last 2 years, you're OK. My fiancee had her tourist visa cancelled last year when she tried to get back into the US from Mexico and was sent back. I was extremely worried about how that would affect our approval. It's a long story, but it turned out not to be a problem. I doubt your fiance(e)'s denial of a visa will be a problem for your approval, though you will have to check some boxes on some forms that you will fill out later on that say your fiance(e) has previously been denied a visa (if that's what happened - you didn't say what exactly was denied).

When it asks if you have filed before, it's asking if you have previously filed a K-1 fiance(e) visa for someone before so if this is your first, then you have not filed before. For financial support, you have your income, stocks, savings, your car, your house, your retirement accounts, 401k's... you can use all of that to say how much you have. You don't have to have that much in your bank account. You just have to show that you make enough to support your fiance(e).

Good luck!

Your petition will be approved stateside with a visit over a year old. The chances of getting the K1 are much smaller. About 1/2 of the first petitions in Lagos will be denied. The big things are how many times you have visited / how long each visit was/ how recent your last visit was and did you intermingle with family especially the parents. Proof of continued contact is very important. They are going to ask for you to prove that the calls are between you and him. If you can do that from the records you have you are ok , otherwise think of using a method of contact that leaves better records.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Thank you all so much for your prompt response, I am hopeful and determined.I pray that this phase will become a testimony soon. I used the guideline on VJ, I am waiting to get his passport photo which should be here any day now, then I ll mail the application.

@ mugumogu, he was denied a visiting visa, thanks for your detailed response and for sharing your experience.

@ NigeriaorBust,I have been visiting once a year since 2008, wish I could more often but it is not easy. I hope once a year is not seen as not often enough, we however skype, call, bbm, txt, facebook everyday.I will take this leap of faith and start the process. Thanks everyone once again for replying!!

Welcome to vj. Did your fiance send you a letter of intent to go in your I129F? This has to have an original signature. You need to make at least 18,000 a yr for 2 people. As long as you have met within the 2 yr period you r ok. Also make sure you keep all chat logs and phone call logs. If you send gifts or money, keep receipts. This shows proof of an ongoing relationship. Good luck!

HI, thank you!! He scanned a copy of the letter then sent it via email, now that you mention it, that might not be a smart idea?? I probably should 've asked him to just mail the copy with his passport. I am supposed to be getting the passport tomorrow to include with my application. The money part is good for now, I pray to get to help me preserve this job and getting something better by the time it is time to bring those proof. How much chat logs, emails and phone bills do you think will be too much? Thank you so much for your time
