He worked as a mathematician (in ballistics) for the Navy, a business analyst for Coca-Cola, and VP of corporate systems and services (information technology) for Pillsbury.

Cain changed careers in mid-life and moved to Pillsbury's restaurant division (Burger King). Managed 400 restaurants, then became chairman of the Godfather's Pizza chain.

He served on the board of the National Restaurant Association in 1994-1995, and was the the association's president in 1996.

Herman Cain was the Chairman of The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City from 1995 to 1996 (and deputy chairman 1992-1994).

Herman Cain has served on the board of directors of Nabisco, Creighton University, SuperValu, UtiliCorp United, AGCO, The Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Morehouse College, Whirlpool, Hallmark, Aquila, and The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

Recently has hosted radio program on WSB in Atlanta.

but Cain didn't really do anything to gain tonight. He defended 9-9-9 for 30 minutes with "go to my website" and then we pretty much didn't hear from him for the last 90 minutes.

Just curious why you thought Cain gained tonight?

Did you go to his website? Perry and Romney would prefer you did not. He defended his plan the best way he can when on the stage with people that lie and distort.

Perhaps he should have acted more like Romney and Perry and Santorum?

The fact is, Cain did nothing to disgrace himself, the others did. He gained because they lost. That works for me. Romeny and Perry can fight over who will be number 2. Good for them.

Cain has not employed illegals, he has not suggested we educate them with our tax dollars, he has not implmented a failed medical system, he did not consult with Obama on Obamacare, he HASbeen very successful in business and economic areas with his plans.

we NEED to turn this mess over, empty it out and start over from the bottom, the foundation, the FUNDING of our government. Each and every issue addressed ALWAYS amounts to a stalemate over how we will pay for it, WHO will pay for it. This has to be fixed FIRST.

Anyone gonna watch it?

I watched the first hour live, then watched the rest later on at night. It was fun to watch. Very substantive I thought. Gingrich came away looking good. Cain lost some points in this one IMO and Romney and Perry looked like petulant little bichez.

In the next debates I think they need to eliminate Bachmann and Paul.

Corporations win - they drop from 35% down to 9%

People who make money in the stock market win - their taxes drop to 0%

Everyone else - about 300 million people. Will see a tax INCREASE.

The weirdest thing is if you take that 300 million and do a bottom .0001% to top 99.9999% it is least painful at the top.....And the less you make the more you feel the squeeze.

Same for the rich. It's great if you are at the bottom - but the richer you are the better the plan is.

Why do you support that? There are nearly 50 million uninsured because they're broke and 50 million on food stamps. Why do you want to tax every purchase they make at 9%?

The poor just need to divorce themselves from the idea that they're entitled to new stuff. And retailers need to divorce themselves from thinking that they have 300 million consumers. How is this feasible for states but not for the feds? In Vermont we do not apply state sales tax to food, clothes and shoes OR to second hand goods. Doesn't seem to be a problem. Bar coding and scanners long ago took care of that.

The embedded taxes currently paid will be gone, the price of goods will be roughly the same, the Medicare and SS tax of 7.65% paid on ALL income even by poor people, even by unemployed people, will be replaced with a 9% tax. Are you really so worried about a 1.35% increase? Really?

We also have this fanntasy belief that "rich people" pay 35%. They don't. Show me someone that makes $1,000,000 per year and pays $350,000 in federal income tax. (Plus SS, medicare and state income tax) Anyone doing that is a fool and deserves to pay that much.

There are so many deductions, exemptions, credits, tax shelters, exclusions etc that I will bet few of them really pay more than 9% anyway.

The reason someone like Michelle Bachman hates it is because she is a former tax attorney. Tax attorneys are going to have to do something else. THAT would be a good thing.

It ain't about feasibility. It's about the plan Mr. Cain presented. There, essentials are not exempt from the national sales tax. Labor cost isn't either. So, you pay 9% income tax and your employer will have to pay 9% on what he pays you. Of course, that's coming off your pay. So, in essence, it's a whopping 18% tax on work income. Plus a 9% sales tax on everything but used goods. What a plan.
