The real problem that i see here is this overpowering influence that Mexico as a Hispanic and Spanish speaker country has in the U.S. If it was a Spanish class and they want to teach to the students the Spanish language and also the culture in those countries they should start studding Spain since this country is the Mother land and more importantly Spain is where Spanish (español, castellano) has its origin. It also bothers me coming from a Hispanic country (not Mexico) that all those others countries as Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Uruguay, etc. are pretty much forgotten in a Spanish class here in the U.S. it's always about Mexico as it was the only and more important Hispanic and Spanish speaker country which is not true whatsoever.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

you all do realize this was in a Spanish class right? Part of an assignment for the Spanish class...

Non-story.

On top of that it took place in a Spanish class in McAllen which is 10 minutes from the border.

I know that. I just wanted to see some of the reactions.

It was funny though when I went to El Paso (a US city as you know cause you live in Texas)....

Everyone there was Mexican or Mexican-American. It was hilarious. I walk into a grocery store that had a bank inside. Just like in Mexico, there is 100 people waiting in line and you have to patiently wait 30-40 minutes to get to the teller. As I'm waiting, I notice that the teller is greeting every single person in Spanish.

"Buenas tardes, en que puedo servirle...."

And the customers are all speaking Spanish.

It makes sense for that area (even the grocery cashiers did this).

But it was a culture shock for me because I've never experienced anything like it. It was basically Mexico in US territory.

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

So are you upset that they aren't recruiting Alaska's burgeoning criminal population?

IMHO, being required to recite and remember a pledge or anthom of another country in the US school system is B.S. It has absolutely nothing to do with culture. It's just some teacher trying to do her part in brainwashing the students to be loyal to another country. This is America----not Mexico. The students should be able to pick any Spanish speaking country of THEIR CHOICE and do a report on it for the culture part of the class. As far as the teacher is concerned---if she loves Mexico so much why doesn't she take the 10 mile drive and go home since she doesn't want to assimilate into the US CULTURE and become an American.

Sorry for the rant but stuff like this is starting to wear on my nerves!!!

Are you serious? Seriously, you don't realize why kids learn about Mexico, in a Spanish class? You can't think of a single reason why a school, in Tejas, near the Mexican border would be learning about Mexico?

Oh no, excuse me I have to ask you this then. Are you serious? My daughter attend to a middle school here in Chicago, IL (specifically in downtown) and in her Spanish class it's everything related to Mexico and nothing else but. The principal, the staff and 80% of the teachers have a Mexican background. So, if I'm right Illinois is quite far from the Mexico border right? Of course there is Mexican agenda here obviously; unfortunately a lot of people don't want to see that.

I come from a Hispanic, Spanish speaker country in South America, I can tell you that you have no idea the stuff I have seen, read and heard from Mexicans. Only I can tell you that many of them have a lot of kids for not very lovely reason which you know are U.S. citizens. And I assure you they won’t stop having them. 50 more years and you’ll see how different things will be here in the U.S. (language, culture, values).

Again, If they want to teach Spanish there are plenty of Hispanic countries besides Mexico, and starting for Spain that is the country

where Spanish was originated.
