When the day comes that Palestine and Israel resolve their dispute, and scientists at Tel Aviv and Bir Zeit can simply work on scientific problems and not have to deal with armed struggle, that will truly be something to celebrate.

I'd like to see it too. I'm reading a book called 1491 right now, and in it the author discusses what a huge and terrible catastrophe it was for the world to lose the ideas, the knowledge, the artistry and philosophies of the people who inhabited the Americas when disease and conquest took so many of their lives. Catastrophic for the horrible loss of life, and catastrophic that the exchange of ideas would never be fully realized in all of their splendor, because in a flash, so many were gone. I don't want that to happen here, or anywhere else again.
