Freedom is free, unless you act agressively toward someone and then they want to take away your freedom. If one minds their own business and treats everyone with kindness then there is no reason to believe that freedom is not free.

All life forms higher on the evolutionary scale than a reptile will defend their families with any means available.

Never. Absolutely.

Physical abuse, violence, murdering, killing, injuring, using force to protect oneself, etc. Any way you slice it, they are all wrong.

I am going to assume that you are not just pulling our chain to get attention, but that is getting harder to assume.

I presume you are about 22-25 years old (maybe less) and you do not have a wife (yet) or children. Correct me where I make an error.

You are making this decision for whom? Does your wife agree to you standing by and allowing her to be brutalized even until she is dead? Do your children agree to this? What about the mother of those children? what mother would stand by while her children are brutalized and say "Oh that's OK, don't worry sweetheart" who? You want to marry THAT woman? If a woman does not care for her children she sure as hell does not care for you.

Seriously, this is no joke, if I admitted to something like this to my wife she would not have married me. Deal breaker. Now that we are already married, I think she would probably hope for the best until she could find a way out and then dump me.

what you are saying is horribly irresponsible. I can believe you do not own a gun, many people do not, but I cannot believe you would not call 911, and when you do they are going to send a guy WITH A GUN! If you do not need a guy with gun them why call them? I mean, how many guys without a gun do you need to be there? Seems like you would be enough to do nothing.

check your troll meter ... it might be in the zone .....

I am thinking that myself. He isn't Amish, the computer gives that away, and he is not a lizard or salamander so how can he say he would do nothing about a family member being injured otr killed? It simply is not human

At any rate, I too am a pacifist. I prefer to live in this really beautiful crime free place and I carry a gun to insure my life stays peaceful, even if I have to kill someone to keep it that way. So far, that is not needed.

If you want peace...prepare for war!

Ready,

I have never before heard such a load of horses**t as you have stated here. I will respect your right to be a pacifist but I want to consider some things first.

Freedom has never and will never be free. It must be fought for everyday by one's actions and thoughts. When you give up your right to think and decide for yourself and give that away to another person, you are no longer free.

When you refuse to defend yourself or your family you are saying that the other person's right to life is greater than your own. This does not make you free, but instead makes you a slave. It shows that you do not value your life or your loved one's lives. In this I do not feel sorry for you, but for your family who may look to you for protection I am deeply sorry for.

Before you say anything I will let you know that I am a peace loving person and do not own a gun. I will give over my money without any violence if it is only my life at risk. But if someone puts my family in harm's way I will still give over my money, but they better kill me because if they do not I will hunt them down and have their guts for garters.

Get a gun and be done with it! :P

Ok so let's get to the point. You say its bad enough that civilians can carry guns. You saw the outcome of this news article. What do you think should have been done differently?

I haven't posted here in a while but done a lot of lurking. However, I have to add my two cents here since I am a big time supporter of gun ownership.

First, good for the kid. Better the criminal to be the "victim" than the kid.

Second, I have my CCW and carry everywhere I go. I also have my handgun and shotgun close by at home. Call me paranoid if you may, but I refuse to become a victim of rape, or a victim of any scumbag for that matter.

It took me a long while to realize that gun prohibition and/or strict gun control isn't the answer. It took for me to take a long look at my own country of birth. Mexico, they have some of the most strict gun laws there can be, and look at what is happening right now.

No way I want to live here in the US in fear of criminals. Not when we have the right to bear arms and self-defense. I feel sorry for my people in Mexico, they don't have those rights.

Wow, and uh....what was supposed to deter the people from going into a house that did not belong to them?

Murder them slowly, murder their sisters and brothers and eat the unborn children in their wife's abdomen

See - I am getting to be a real American after all

I think every fertilized christian egg should be issued with a micro glock with nano model crimson trace grip and 30 rounds of micro ammunition in case an illegal immigrant tries to rape the god-fearing mother while she is pregnant

If that doesn't work, extreme measures will be necessary

Sorry to be such a namby pamby euro ferriner but I am still getting up to speed here on VJ

Here are a couple of quotes in this thread that I feel begins to paint a picture of a common theme.

> In regards to gun ownership in Colombia:

"Residents can own firearms but most people do not own them... The process of purchasing a gun is difficult and lengthy and is controlled by the military.. I have no Idea about carrying a concealed weapon."

>Though I love the place, it is not exactly the safest place in the world. Now is it?

"Had none of you had guns, then when you each have your bad day then nothing would EVER happen. But since you all have guns... I'd hate to live in that town."

>This is comming from someone showing a Colombian flag so I would think he is somewhat familier with how safe Colombia is  (being sarcastic) considering few people can legally own guns there.

"Mexico, they have some of the most strict gun laws there can be, and look at what is happening right now."

>No explanation needed!

The state I live in has some of the strictest gun laws in the country and the crime in the Washington to Baltimore area (two cities with even stricter gun laws) is pretty high. I live on the other side of the state which has a very strong gun/hunting culture and you rarely hear of any violent crime---with the exception of a couple "bad sections" of a couple towns with some gang activity springing up. IMO, they can just kill each other off for all I care. Of course it can be a safe assumption that most pick-ups around here, especially this time of year, have guns in them. A lot of people here own guns and I think the criminals know it.

Thing is that the rest of the USA is dripping with guns on every street corner so being strict in DC will not reduce illegals guns there.

Apparently the Americans think that there is an advantage in having States, rather that one set of country laws - but the disadvantage is that we are at the mercy of other states laws. A State with no abortion would find their women could easily go to a state that has it - same with dry counties - so the whole thing is leaky and impractical when it comes to restrictions

Same for Mexico - they can ban guns all they want but they come in from the USA

It would be like Washington State banning Canada geese

The different states/laws are one of the things that make this country great. There are 50 different countrys (so to speak) that have the same language, culture, and military protection, with laws that supposedly meet the needs of the people in that particular area. Of course where I live is an exception. I wish the peninsula would break off from the respective states and form it's own state of DelMarVa.

If you don't like where you are move to another state that more likely meets your needs.

As far as guns in Washington or Baltimore--the crime is commited by, get this, CRIMINALS. Laws don't matter to them. They will get guns anyway and the rest of us would suffer the consiquenses if the guns are not allowed. In reality, the US is a pretty safe place to be. Many legal gun owning citizens live in rural areas were crime is unheard of. Of course, being such a large and populated country you will get the crazies and crime that constantly fill the news to make it seem different.

And in regards to Mexico. I guess it's the evil USA's fault that all the drug dealing Mexican criminals are illigally bringing guns from wherever they can get them---from other criminals illigally selling them. Give me a break.
