Hello out there in VISA Journey Land! We just got an email from NVC stating its in the hands of the US Consulate/Guanzhou. We are doing a CR-2 visa for my wifes son.Anyone have an idea how long the process from here on? I was a bit confused in the email letter where it says certain visa categories will Not Be Scheduled for an interview until the case's priority date is eligible. Our case has a priority date of 11Jan2011.Can anyone give me some insight? Also,I called the number listed to check the priorty date and was totally baffled. The recording just rambled off a bunch of stuff like 2A,2B,3rd22,China mainland 22July04 so on and so forth. Did anyone else get an email like this from NVC? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

The priority date is relevant only if you are in a quota limited immigration category. Child of a US citizen is an immediate relative with no quota limit so can get the visa as soon as the paper work is done.

Chances are once the US consulate gets all the files, an interview will be scheduled within 30 days. By the time you hear about it the interview is probably only two weeks away.

Now is a good time to call the DoS Hotline, get a human, inquire on casefile status based on the GUZ/GZO casefile number.

Do it today. (DoS HotLine # in my profile - click the girls, study left panel)

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

What does calling Dos actualy do for me? Is it showing them I am actually interested or something? Should I ask them something? Thanks Again!

DoS Hotline knows all status once the casefile has left NVC.

Simple things and dates, there's a plethora of activity you can track, such as:

1. Date Casefile opened at GUZ IV

2. Date the Packet 4 was sent out

3. Interview Date set date

4. Interview Date

then after the Interview,

5. Status of Interview

6. Date Visa Packet Mailed

What is an EP?

EP is short for electronic processing. Electronic processing is when all relevant documents are scanned and emailed to the NVC and the NVC transfers the file electronically to the Consulate.

During the regular processing,I-130,I-864 etc. I thought I had signed up for EP.I've gotten emails from NVC and such but when I did my AOS and EP'd it,they said they never got it and that I did'nt OPT-IN !! They emailed me stating they received the Visa Application from the applicant but were waiting on the AOS,that I had sent in a month before the Visa Ap was sent. If I did'nt opt in,how was I getting emails from NVC stating they received this or that!!!. Anyhow,I ended up "mailing" the AOS in and lost time doing this. As far as EP'ing Guangzhou,no I did not EP because I assumed I had already done.

If the NVC has your email address on record, they will send you email correspondence, it's not the same as OPTIN.
