All three of those are optional.

So, let me get this straight... instead of getting a job - any job - and paying for things they use, they decide to not work and rack up tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt?

And that's someone else's fault how?

As I said its a catch 22. Sure you take the low paying job without benefits and skip the student loans. However, you might still get hit with no 3 because you can't afford health insurance.

In that situation the only thing that makes 3 optional is seppuku which I highly recommend

If you have no education, how do you know what seppuku is?

You ask your highly educated wife.

It's always fun talking a third language in our house.

We run into folks that can speak one of our languages but it's very rare we find someone that can speak more than both.

How many actually ran? Did you find another one every time you cut the grass?

All four, if you count the RV which didn't have an engine but wheels that turned. One was an older Honda Civic (work car); one was a Subaru Outback; the truck was a Ford F350; and the RV was a 34 foot Holiday Rambler Alumalite.

Why live in the city if you're poor? (Not "you" specifically, Rachel.)

Wouldn't that depend on the city?

Some people choose to live sparse lifestyles in big cities because of the culture, entertainment and night life.

How about, instead of worrying about making a bunch of money, we encourage people to live within their means?

People wouldn't need to constantly move up and make more money if they lived within their means.

Just how much debt do you have, slim? What's your income? Do you have a mortgage? Car loans? Credit card debt?

I know you don't have any student loans.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

I have appx. $20,000 in debt. My income is around $40,000/year. No mortgage. Car loan with about $17,000 left. Around $2750 in credit card debt.

I do have a student loan.

Do you have health insurance?

Nope.

I guess, if you wanted to be quite technical about it I could go to the VA hospital for emergency care but I don't actually have any insurance. I don't really see the point in having any.

The typical set up is several hundred dollars a month and then you have to pay anyway when you go to the doctor or hospital. Why not cut out the middle man and deal with doctors directly?

They have an insurance system but it's based on income.

Guess what? I make too much.

Are you sure you qualify for the VA system? You have said previously that you were not honorably discharged, which can restrict the benefits you would be eligible to apply for beyond injuries incurred during service.
