To win an argument with rebecca, charles is about to admit he feeds on the taxpayers teat.

i'm sure if someone dug enough, they'd find that could apply to anyone.

However, the rest of the world would start comparing us to Third World countries.

We're getting there. Don't worry. Income distribution is third world rate already. Upward mobility is lagging other developed countries already as well. Everything else will follow since this consumer economy cannot recover under these circumstances. We'll win the race to the bottom. No worries.

No connection to the military or government consumption.

Do they only hire old people where you work?

no military connection required. yes, we have people working that never were in uniform. and it's not a retirement home either.

I care about the cost of staples and basic needs. Gasoline, bread, milk, cereal, vegetables, jeans, shoes, stuff like that. Medications.

All of that stuff is cheaper now than it was in the 1950's or 60's relative to today's wages.

All you really care about is the cost of medical care.

You haven't seen me pushing the trolley around the market yelling like Victor Meldrew about the cost of milk.

Honestly, yes I am concerned the most about medical care. But I do care about the rest of it also.

Really? Median household income in 1969 was $8,400.00. Gallon of gas was $0.35.

Median household income in 2010 was roughly 4 times the 1969 household income yet a gallon of gas was 10 times what it was in 1969.

Cheaper? Really?

Gas, really? Is that what you're going with?

What do you suggest we do to lower the price of gas? There's only so much oil left in the world and everyone wants more and more of it.

It's the same as Canada, the UK and a half dozen European countries.

That's not how I see this map. We are on par with China, Latin America and some African nations. Not with Canada, the UK or any other European country. Not even close.

You said all that stuff is cheaper today. Reality somewhat inconvenient?

It was one example Mark. I can remember getting bread on special for 10 cents a loaf in the late 70's. It was a hell of a special but I could get it nonetheless.

1969 prices:

Gallon of milk: $1.10 ($6.47 in 2010 dollars)

Dozen eggs: $0.62 ($3.64 in 2010 dollars)

2011 prices:

Gallon of milk: $3.39

Dozen eggs: $1.25

You said all that stuff is cheaper today. Reality somewhat inconvenient?

I also didn't exclude medications. So what?

That's not how I see this map.

What is this map?
