Most of them do have jobs. They are just not content to make about 40k per year with no health insurance or retirement plans like you. The people I know personally who are a part of the OWS movement are there by using their PTO.

Why not? $40k a year is not a bad salary for a young person.

I get by just fine on it.

What is it with you people and health insurance? BUY YOUR OWN, for fucks sake. It's not THAT expensive- we're talking about a couple of hundred dollars a month for a young healthy person.

I dont know how much health insurance costs because my employer covers it all. Even if it is just a couple of hundred dollars a month, this is American insurance we are talking about.. Insurance companies have dropped people in the past for getting sick and do impose lifetime caps. Most private health insurance policies do not cover well-women exams, contraceptives or pregnancies. Private insurance is a joke for the most part. Most of this is supposed to change in the next few years, but I am not very optimistic about it.

What about retirement savings? Can a family of 2 live comfortably on 40k per year and still have enough left over at the end of the month to build a sizable nest egg or investment portfolio?

There are enough young healthy people out there who bust their a$$ and won't settle for peanuts just because it is good enough for others.

If they get PTO... it can't be all that bad.

I get by just fine on it.

Pay cash. Planned parenthood offers those services for pennies on the dollar.

Why would a family of 2 only make $40K? Shouldn't they make $80K? (Or at least $60K if one is an immigrant?)

I am sure you are plenty happy wtih 40K. But you shouldn't really hate those who want access to better education, healthcare and better their lives? Not everyone is happy with status quo like you and want to do better.

If you want to do better, do better. Find a better job. Learn a new skill. Start your own business.
