As soon as you go and see a doctor, you ARE paying for it. Recovery of uncompensated care is baked into the fee schedules.

I don't see a doctor for much but when I do, I negotiate for a lower rate.

Part of the problem is folks go to the doctor WAY TOO MUCH.

He will never go see a doctor, aren't you listening?

He will never even purchase OTC medication (since recovery costs are baked into those as well).

OTC medication is the way to go. Why do folks feel they need to pay thousands of dollars to get a problem fixed when it's a problem they could fix for pennies?

Right. And I'll never get old which is why I should not pay any SS taxes. Nor will I ever cause an accident with my vehicle which is why I should not have to purchase auto insurance.

Both of those are mandatory under the law. Health care is not.

He also (if I remember correctly) opted out of a military pension plan because that too was a scheme.

That wasn't me.

As far as I know, there is no military pension plan other than the standard retirement plan which folks don't actually pay into. There's a thrift savings plan and several other similar plans but those are quasi-government and typically offered through private banks.

I did none of those. I was too busy "investing" in the local economies and putting single moms through school.

You won't be able to negotiate major things, like blood tests or X-rays I bet.

It will be against the law to not have health insurance pretty soon for the reasons mentioned.

Those are actually the easiest to negotiate. "Hey, I have a bill for $214. I can't pay that much. How about I send you $112 today?"

Believe it or not, those companies actually save money by cutting out the insurance paperwork. Plus, when you pay out of pocket, they get that money immediately as opposed to waiting six months for the insurance paperwork.

If it's mandatory they better nationalize it. I'm not paying a private company for something compulsory.

And while they're at it, they better start handing out free rifles. If rights are now mandatory, they have to incentivize ownership of them.

most blood tests/xrays are in the 1000 dollar range FYI and the rifle bit is a logical fallacy

They have a single-payer system for that now.. Police, National Guard, Military, etc

And look how efficient that is.

The govt. could mess up a wet dream.

Is that what they charge an individual or what they charge the insurance company?

There is a difference, you know.

and the rifle bit is a logical fallacy

So is the insurance bit. How the government could require healthcare is beyond me. I've read that constitution over and over and I don't see it anywhere.

Individual I would presume. I don't have health insurance for my cat. She was ill about 2 years ago right before Christmas and a couple of X-rays and an IV drip for 6 hours cost over 1000.

Basically, in the 1980s a law was passed that gave everyone a right to live by receiving ER care if in danger, but it provided no way to pay for it. They corrected that recently.

That price tag is so high because people who take their cat to get x-rays and IV drips obviously are irrational. They're easy prey. I remember having that argument with my ex-wife who spent some $400.00 at the vet for some treatment of a $20.00 rabbit which kicked the bucket all the same.
