Good Morning Guys,

I am about to start completing my documents. There is a requirement for two 2 x 2 inch US size passport photo's for the interview / application. Do the photo's attach to the DS-156 (as there is an area on the form to attach photo)or are they required additionally for the interview...or both?? If anyone can clarify I would appreciate it. Thank you :)

this link tells you what you need to take to the interview on the day and at the end it says 'three colour passport photos'. It is difficult to tell. I would either ring the embassy or err of the side of caution and send two now and take three in for the interview AND one for the medical lol though when you ring to book the medical I'm sure they'll tell you if they need one. Chances are they need three during the interview as they'll attach one to their file, one to the medical results recieved and one (hopefully) to your visa :) Good luck!!

Yes the general consensous is two for the interview, of US size and one for the medical UK size okay. I was wondering if the DS-156 ones were one and the same for the interview....oh well maybe another trip to the photo booth lol.

Take 2 US size passport photos to the interview in London. Do not attach anything to the DS forms, including the documents the DS-156K says to attach. London wants you to mail in the DS forms only and take everything else to the interview where they will do the attaching.

The 3rd US passport photo is for your medical exam. However Knightsbridge is perfectly happy with a UK size (smaller photo)if you have a spare one lying around. My husband had some of both and asked at the medical. She said the UK one was fine because it fit the form better and they cut down the US size a bit if you have that size. So either size for the medical.

Okay, cue 'dumb question' (lol) WHERE/HOW do I find US sized passport pictures???? thanks :)

Gould's Pharmacy by the embassy, Snappy Snaps in some UK towns, several places near the Bond St Tube station (near embassy), or DIY like my fiance did. Google "Make you own US passport photos" and you get a variety of help.

The embassy also has a photo booth inside in the hallway near the toilets, but it's often out of order, so I wouldn't wait until being inside for the interview to get photos.

Thanks Nich-Nick its just the instructions etc are not always the clearest, and our quest to ensure everything is JUST right drives ya mad. lol

I used snappy snaps like you say but are expensive £15 for just the two snaps, although quick etc.

Thanks again for clarifying it!

I posted regular sized ones with the packet 3, glued them on. They only took one of my pictures from goulds at the embassy and they took a photo of it and gave me it back I think. That is the picture that is on my visa. annoyingly enough it shows thinner than a UK on the actual visa, so its kind of a waste of money, but obviously you don't want to be defiant and be like "take my UK one and be thankful" haha

I think they are a little more automated with scanners and such, but keep their old ancient instructions on their website. Somebody had a UK size one accepted recently. London is usually pretty flexible, but we aim to please them so follow their instructions. When I was first reading your post and you said the one on your visa was thinner, I thought you meant you looked thinner and thought---ooohhh that's nice. :) hahaha
