Proof of Chicken Pox?

I read somewhere on panelphysicians.com that we can provide "verbal declaration of chicken pox"? Just curious if anyone has ever done this and if it was sufficient? Basically all I have to do is say "Yes I had the Chicken Pox when I was in Grade 2"?

Thanks for the help!

Hmm... what if I've never had chicken pox? Is that going to be a problem?

You'll need to get a varicella vaccine. Ask your doctor to give one to you :) I don't know if it's covered by OHIP, but at the medical exam if you don't have it they will charge you for it.

There's more than one shot for it. You can read about it here http://www.panelphysicians.com/Pages/Age6.htm This shows you all the vaccines you need to have.

A verbal declaration of chickenpox.

or

Proof of immunization against chickenpox. Normally two immunizations 4 to 8 weeks apart or the first of the two within the 4 weeks prior to your immigration medical examination.

or

An antibody titers blood test showing proof of immunity to chickenpox (varicella).

the medical in toronto is one thing but once you get to the us you have to do a short medical for your aos covering vacnations and if you dont have proof of haveing the chicken pox you have to go get a blood test, as well as needing two shots for the mumps, they only used to give one, they need two. it may be eayser to get this done before you leave so ohip can pay for it lawl my insurance covered it once i got it here anyways but that may not always be the case the mumps shot alone was 90 bucks

If you haven't had Chicken Pox (like me) it's a bit complicated.

First, get a blood test to prove that you do not have immunity. So, basically go into any doctor and ask them to order a blood test to see if you are immune to chicken pox. Make sure you get the Doctor to provide you with a copy of your result that clearly states that you are not immune.

After you get your result, you need to contact the Health Unit to arrange to get a chicken pox vaccine. It took me 2 weeks to get an appointment with them. You need to bring your blood test results with you to prove you're not immune so they will give you the vaccine.

*** be advised that if you're an adult it is 2 shots in order to be vaccinated. You have to wait 4 weeks between shots.

I had my medical done after only having 1 shot, and they marked my series as incomplete so I'm not sure if this will mess me up for my AOS, but I have a record of my 2nd shot so it should be okay.

Hope this helps... Sure would have been useful to have chicken pox haha

Edit: forgot to add that in BC the chicken pox vaccine was free, so I'm sure it would be free anywhere in Canada.

Thanks for the info! I'm only just starting to research the process (no ring on my finger yet... but it's coming! hehe). I'm hoping to get everything as organized in advance as possible!

I'd highly recommend starting shots now. It takes a while to get your records, then if you have to get more than 1 live virus vaccine it's 1 month between each shot...

Delayed our progress quite a bit. Looking back it wasn't that bad but I was sure frustrated and stressed at the time lol..
