Hi There,

New member... just got a simple question.

Been in the US since 2004, came in on K1 then moved to AOS and now have a I551 which is valid until 2018.

My SSN card has the "Valid for work only with DHS Authorization" on it. And as we know the I551 covers that part of it.

I have had several jobs in the US and also attend University and never had a problem with it.

I am starting a new job this week and they want me to fill in the I9, but I notice it has this on it.

"Social security account number card other then one that specifies on the face that the issuance of the card does not authorize employment in the US"

So will I be ok? or will I have problems?

You will be okay.

For I-9 purposes, you either have to show your driver's license and an unrestricted SS cars -- or -- your Green Card.

Google I-9 and check out the LIST A, LIST B and LIST C documents.

1 LIST A = 1 LIST B + 1 LIST C. Your choice alone.

In English, if you show your Green Card, you do not, I repeat, do not have to show your SS card. All you do is give them your SS number.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

My Social Security card still says "Valid for work with INS authorization only" (this was issued before DHS was formed and hence INS is printed on it) and I've had this since 2001. Since then, I've obtained my Green Card, Citizenship and a US government clearance without any issues while working for two fortune 500 companies over the past 7 years.

I will be very surprised if this causes you any grief...

Best Regards!
