Paid with my CC. Got FF (SkyMiles) miles for the card, but you can't get miles for her travel on any airline I don't believe.

I think you are part correct, The person flying is the one who earns the miles, not the person who pays for the ticket.

Most airlines give you the ability to transfer miles. But the first thing you have to do is earn the miles. Sign every body up for an account so at least you can lock in the earning of the miles. Make sure the airline knows about her number before the boarding pass is printed . To have miles credited after the flight has started is a major pain. You may never have enough for a free airline ticket but might have enough for a car rental discount or a free hotel night.

I did Delta from MNL to ATL (via NRT and MSP) for my fiancee and our daughter. I booked in their names on Delta's website. Paid with my CC. Got FF (SkyMiles) miles for the card, but you can't get miles for her travel on any airline I don't believe. They took CebPac to MNL from CEB.

You can get MNL to ATL via NRT if you want to pony up the extra funds.

A word of caution: Delta (and I believe most other airlines) will no longer accept a photocopy of the card used to book the ticket. Delta required me to come to the airport and present the card and ID before they would remove the reservation "inhibitor" from the reservation. This allowed her to board without the card.

P.S.: We looked for several weeks...most of these so called "immigration specials" are just as expensive as normal flights, they have very limited seat availability, and they are usually multi-carrier and multi-stops. The best one we found would have saved me about 250US for both tickets but it was 4 stops and 36 hours total time. If you book MNL to ATL via NRT she can be here in about 18 hours.

The more i read the more it sounds like I just need to wire here the money and be done with it. :)

That's what I mean, "but you can't get miles for her travel on any airline I don't believe." I meant that scruffydog could not earn miles for her travel. Of course she can earn miles if she has a FF account.

I think you are correct. I think I will get her to sign up for a KAL account then just send her the money .

why dont you just send her the money and let her find some first time immigrant promo tickets? for one way they range from 550 to 750 depending on where is the destination ;)

I couldn't agree with you more. My husband sent me the money for purchasing the ticket and bought it from Reli travel and tours in PI and asked for my first time immigrant discount fare and walah! granted  Anyway I think this discount doesn't count on K1 visas and tickets that are purchased online. :innocent:

For those who are wondering.

There is a Philippines law on purchasing tickets outside the Philippines. If you try to book on some websites - you will get the following:

According to Philippines Law, tickets departing from the Philippines cannot be purchased from any region other than the Philippines. In accordance with the law, such flight are not available in xxxxx homepage. If you wish to purchase tickets for flights departing from the philippines, please contact xxxxx office or service center in your region. You will get that message if you try to book via the Korean airline's sites.

There are some TA & airlines who will book for you because they have an agreement/office in the Philippines and that office takes care of things on their end. That is one of the reasons some people can book outsite the PI for flights originating in the PI.

I say send your lady the money - it would be less hassle & she may get a better fare.

Also have her POE as her final destination. That way, should there be any delays or her interview takes long(the officer have a few people to process) then she would not have to worry about missing her connecting flight.

I got this email back from Korean Air after sugesting they at least let you see the price even if they cant sell you the ticket.

Dear Mr. Roth,

This is Hyoung Bae Kim, Deputy General Manager of Korean Air Manila office.

I’m writing this because the earlier mail from one of my staff, may not be the answer to your inquiry.

First of all, we really appreciate your valuable suggestion on displaying fares for the flights from Philippines.

We completely agree with your opinion, and will take necessary action to get it done.

We’ll make an official report to our headquarter in Seoul requesting change in our website to display

fares for the visitors. Though we cannot give you the exact timeline for this moment.

Again thank you for your interest on Korean Air. We look forward to serve you on our flights.

Sincerely

Hyoung Bae Kim

Deputy General Manager

Regional Office Manila

Korean Air

I just bought a ticket for my fiancee from Vayama with no problem. manila to ORD total was 888. I also bought round trip for me. I had to do them separate tho. Because one was round trip and the other one way. I called http://www.wholesaletraveler.com/ and they told me some crazy price. I told them that was too high. They said because of holidays, and I should book sooner. They asked If I could afford to pay that. I said no. then they said I would not be able to go. I said ok in a a happy voice and hung up and booked online with Vayama for a 3rd less.

But do book as early as possible your trips in the Holiday times as the cheap tickets will be drying up soon. Ran into the same problem last year and bought late, looked everywhere and 1400 roundtrip from SFO was the cheapest......looked everywhere too.....Best of luck!!
