with today's technology why in the world they don't tie a database query to a website that allows people to check the K-1 ( or other Visa status ) online. Vis journey members represent only a small fraction of Visa applicants. I can't fathom the number of people that NVC has to employee just to answer the phone and give a status update..

If it was a private company that had to make a profit in order to stay in business it would have done it years ago.. Goota love government organizations.

I am working on that technology right now. It's not just a query... it's in a remote location so it would have to be done with a Web Service, which is now obsolete...they are now using Windows Communication Foundation. The government has a hard time keeping these people and there is no shortage of demand for them, if they are good enough, even in this economy. I quit hiring and training because we would hire them in for 50k, someone would steal them for 15k more the next year, we would steal them back, someone else would steal them again. If you are an expert at this technology, there is someone out there that will pay you more.

And for those of you that want to make 100k or more a year, go ahead and catch up.. it will take you 10 years if you work around smart people.. but by the time you get there, you will be obsolete and some kid out of college will be willing to work for 40k until someone pays him more in 365 days. It's a tough field. I should have been a lawyer or doctor. It would have been easier.

The bottom line is that I see our NOA's are not getting posted because I called them. They said the web site is broke. I understand this. Things break, someone leaves.. and the next person in line doesn't have a clue how to fix it. Even outsourcing is not the answer, because a lot of there stuff doesn't work either.

You answered the question. They are not a private company, they do not need to make a profit, there is no where else for you to go.

Keep this in mind if you want the government to run your health care.

NVC does not employ ANY people to answer the phone. The people that answer are contracted phone bank people. They answer questions from a menu of answers and it is usually pretty useless information (ever notice that?) It discourages further inquiries.

Calling them is pretty much a waste of your time.
