If you have an afternoon appointment scheduled for Montreal... mine is 1:35... I have read much advice about being at the doors at 6:30 a.m. - does this apply to afternoon appointments as well? I didn't know they would give a time at all! Is this something new?

Has anyone with an afternoon appoinment tried to go in the morning? Does anyone really not go til half hour before their appointment in the afternoon?

Thank you so much for any experiences or advice!

Hi Frostiana, Thank you for posting this question as I too have an afternoon appt. I had read in one VJ interview review a while back that someone did go early morning for an afternoon appt and at the embassy they asked why are you here so early and they said, I was told to come early for my appt. And he said "not THIS early" I want to show up at a reasonable time but I don't want to upset them by coming too early. Hope other VJers can help us. :)

For afternoon appointments they want you to show up 20 minutes before. They're strict about it- if you show up at 6am they will turn you around.

Yeah, my appointment wasn't until the early afternoon and I got there at 7ish. I was allowed in, but it was questioned, and I was told that I should have shown up closer to my appointment time.

Thanks Coconuts - I'll take yours and Pocheros advice then and show up as they suggest before the appointment. :)

At 1 time they would give u a time, but it didnt mean a thing, but no longer the case

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

So after they let you in, did you have to wait til afternoon to be seen or did you just take a number? What time did you end up finishing?

After they let me in, I waited until everyone else who had a morning time slot had their interview. I ended up getting out of there at around 11:30, which was a couple hours before my interview time.

However, the first person I saw told me that I was there too early and they didn't have my file yet to work on so I ended up waiting around a lot until everyone else was finished.

This was back in May right when they actually started having interviews in the afternoon, so I'm sure it's changed now. I've seen people post that they've been turned away and told to come back. If I had my interview now, I wouldn't show up in the morning.
