Why are you driving 180 miles if you go on the 10th, and then 190 miles if you go again on the 14th? :P

I would attend the appointment on November 14. If you're denied for not attending the original appointment show them the rescheduled appointment letter.

Do you know what it feels like to get a denial letter in your hand?

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

Hmmm. Let's think about some of the possibilities...

Maybe they live in an RV, and will be staying at a different KOA on the 14th?

There's gonna be a road closure on the 14th and they have to take a different route?

When they put the emergency "donut" tire on the car it always says it's 10 miles farther?

Hubby's car has a Garmin GPS and Wifey's car has a Tom Tom GPS, and they never agree on the distance?

When they translate from miles to kilometers and back to miles on a 99 cent Wal-Mart calculator there's a 10 mile difference?

There's a rogue planet called "Nibiru" following comet "Elenin", and it's going to cross paths with the earth on the 12th. The shift in the tectonic plates is going to cause major earthquakes. On the 14th it really WILL be 10 miles farther. It's gotta be true. I saw it on YouTube!

I'm sorry but if it was me and I got an official rescheduled appt letter there's no way i'll let someone tell me i did wrong by following the instructions on that letter let alone be denied for following official instructions.

People have been denied for not attending the originally scheduled interview, and USCIS was not the least bit interested in looking at the letter for the rescheduled interview appointment.

1million% agree.

Why is USCIS rescheduling the appointments then? Why attend a cancelled appointment?

Do you know what it feels like to get a denial letter in your hand?

No, do you?

We don't know why it happens. All we know is what has happened to some people in the past. So we advise people to attend the first interview anyway so nothing bad happens to their case.

Fortunately I don't. I do know, however, what it feels like to wait a long time for a greencard. Or maybe I should say my husband's greencard. 18 months. I know this is an important document and I would want no one to be delayed over something they could avoid.

I'm sure you don't want to give someone advice that could cause them a denial. Thus my comment to you.

That's what I would love to know! We didn't request a change. There was no reason given for the change. The Uscis status still says interview November 10th. If it had changed to the 14th along with the notice I wouldn't be as worried. But the system these guys run on leave us filled with doubt. As they say better safe than sorry I guess.

Why attend a cancelled appointment? Because, as seen in the past, it's rarely ACTUALLY cancelled and the person just missed their ACTUAL interview.

Don't get me wrong it's a huge pain. Our local office is 3 hours away (so 6 hours round trip.. yuck) and I'd be ticked at having to drive there twice in a short space of time (if it comes to that) but at the same time I would be more ticked, and also upset that I was denied simply because I couldn't be bothered spend that time driving. Yes it's USCIS's fault but I would be the one paying for it and so I'll just "pay" for the extra drive "just in case".

My advice OP? Plan something to do in the town you're going to in the event you don't need to do the interview for the first one. This way it's not a completely wasted trip. Consider taking the entire weekend and staying in that town (so you don't need to drive back on the Monday). Expensive yes, missing work yes (don't know if you work on w/ends) but also makes it less tedious. Look into fun things to do, or restaurants to go to or something. For me I would just plan the day because my husband words w/end (sometimes) and also because petrol/gas is cheaper than a hotel room (depending on your vehicle/room) but just some ideas anyway :D

As for why rescheduling.. the issue isn't actually the reschedule, the issue is they don't tell the local office that it was rescheduled, or the local office doesn't see the paperwork in time and once they hit that "denied for lack of attendance" button the second interview won't happen either, not until you go through the "reopening of a denied case" process, which can take weeks or months.

As nice as a long weekend would be it just isn't possible :( .... On another note the letter for the new appointment came straight from our local office not the Missouri office, but there have been no status updates to a new appointment online so we are just going to risk to drives. We are going to print screen the online status and say we were simply confussed as to what to do so we turned up for the original ;)

well there is a new development.. another vj member had an interview the same day as us for jacksonville to also be rescheduled. So that makes me think alil differently, maybe everyone with interviews on the 10th were rescheduled....think we will give uscis a call and speak to a tier 2 and see what it says in the system for us... ...
