Dear all:

I checked the prohibited items of accessing the consulate in Montreal, which does not cover e-reader such as Ipad or kindle.

Only says computers and cameras and so on not allowed.

Does anyone know or notice other applicants using this during waiting time of interview ?

Thanks so much!

Sincerely Yours

I'd imagine it falls under "computers", to be honest.

No one had anything but papers at the embassy in Montreal. They are extremely strict and anything electronic is not allowed inside the embassy. They wouldn't even let this person bring their car key remote inside. They had to leave it in a locker down the street.

thanks two ladies for quick response.

I guess, e-readers are usually separated from computers in electronic store :)

So has anyone experienced interview in Montreal seen other people handle ereaders?

You are trying to split a hair that a security guard will not be interested in discussing. Electronics = no in most cases.

Don't bring ANYTHING besides the papers you need for the interview. I saw one guy get turned away for an electronic key remote on the day of my interview, as inky mentioned. No cell phones either! :P

My husband had a giant hardcover book with him (The new Game of Thrones one that had just come out - that thing isn't small) and they were fine with that. But yeah, I can't imagine an e-reader would go over well.

As stated earlier - splitting hairs. Electronics are a no-no  so I wouldn't recommend pushing the envelope by bringing an e-reader/kindle simply because it's not listed. Why delay yourself with the interview because of bringing something that has a huge potential of getting you denied entry until you dispose of it?

Best of luck at the interview! :)

I had one of those greeting cards that play the little song in my folder of evidence and I had to leave that at security. I would be confident in saying that no, kindles are not allowed!

I saw them turn back people with remotes for their cars! No electronics, its that simple

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

thanks everyone for helpful advice.

May I ask the place in downtown to temporarily store those elec. items ?

Most people leave their stuff in their hotel room. Besides my interview stuff, I also brought the key card used to open my hotel room, and some change in case I needed to get more passport photos (there's a booth on the first floor.)
