So I am about to graduate and am figuring out a lot of details about whether I should stay here and get a job or take a job in Lima so I can be with my boyfriend... we are trying to think ahead for the future and figure out if its better to get married in Peru or to work on the K1 visa and marry here? what is more practical, etc... any help would be very helpful! Thanks

This page was helpful to me when we were preparing to marry in Peru. http://streetsofperu.blogspot.com/2009/02/how-to-get-married-in-peru.html

Look at the work required to marry down there, weigh it against the disadvantages of K-1 filing (higher overall cost compared to CR-1, spouse unable to work and travel upon arrival in the U.S.) and see which works best for you as a couple.

If you are to live in Peru long-term before returning to the U.S. you may even be eligible to do Direct Consular Filing of your I-130 in Lima (again, see the guides) which would save some time compared to filing to the lockbox in the U.S.

By the way, the immigration-related commentary at the bottom of that page is not accurate for the most part, so ignore it. The actual blog post about tramitando for a civil marriage is the useful part.

Also, I wouldn't trade my two inexpensive, homey Peruvian weddings (civil and then church) for even the Kardashians' American wedding budget. If the cost of the party matters to you, that would give marrying in Peru a leg up. From flowers to cake to dresses (made to order or rented even cheaper), the costs are just incomparable to any part of the U.S.
