hi

Today my school tell me i am out of my student state because they make a mistake in my i-20.

in my i-20, "the student is excepted to report to the school no later than 07/20/2011 and complete studies not later than 08/26/2011" ,it means that the length is 1 months, but in my i-20 "the normal length of study is 12 months." these two parts are different.

But now i am continuing studying in this school, but i am out of student state. what i need to and will i be penalty?

Your I 94 should say d/s, so it sounds like the school need to get their act together, what do they say they are doing?

i have talked to someone who signed in my i-20 and work in my school's international student's office.

first, She let me fill in one form and write a letter to government. second, she took my i-20 and i-94 away from me .

Finally, She tell me she will send all of them to the American government and she tell me i just need wait 2 weeks for the government' respond.

she tell me she can't make sure i can continue study in the united states. but it is very clear that this is her mistake ,not my mistake.

now i hope the government'respond is ok.

You should not have to pay anymoney to reinstate as it was clearly a clerical error.

And you should never surrender any documents without first having copies and getting a receipt from the person who took the documents.

i know i don't need to pay for any money.

but she says there two choices: first one, when i paid for this fee she will send all materials today and she will pay the money back to me. second one, i wait for my university to pay for the money, but they will send all materials after 2 weeks. of course, i choice the first one.

well, great - you have some path.

for anyone else reading this, though.

note there is a difference between

'the clerk at the typewriter'

and

the DSO at the international student office.

ALWAYS DEAL WITH THE DSO

and

NEVER SURRENDER your I-94. Folks at the international student office are allowed to make copies of it for their records, and that's it.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

thanks, tomorrow i will go to see the DSO. The day in my i-20 complete studies not later than 08/26/2011. plus 60 days, i need to leave the united states before 10/25/2011, right? i think it is terrible because i am studying now.

If I understood your first post correctly, the school just made a mistake on your I-20 and typed in a wrong date. If that is the case, they just need to update the information in SEVIS and print you a new I-20, that's all.
