Required Vaccines for mid-20s male

Hi All!

My finacé and I are between the NO1 and NO2 phases, and want to be productive as we can. His is Costa Rican, and Costa Rica is one of the countries that requires vaccination for the K-1 visa (even though it isn't technically an immigrant visa). For those of you out there in a similar situation, what vaccines were asked of you? Daniel is a 26 year old male with no major medical problems in his history.

Thanks!

Laura

I do not believe that these are required for entry for the US but are mandatory for AOS

"What vaccines are required for U.S. immigration?

At this time,* vaccines for these diseases are currently required for U.S. immigration:

Mumps

Measles

Rubella

Polio

Tetanus and diphtheria

Pertussis

Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib)

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis B

Rotavirus

Meningococcal disease

Varicella

Pneumococcal disease

Seasonal influenza

*On December 14, 2009, the human papillomavirus (HPV) and zoster vaccines were removed from the list of required vaccines for immigrant applicants. All other vaccinations on this list remain.

Any future vaccines recommended by ACIP for the general U.S. public will be subject to the new vaccination criteria. If the recommended vaccines fit the new criteria, they will be added to the list of required vaccines for immigrant applicants."

Thanks for your help! I believe Costa Rica does *require* vaccines to receive your K1 visa, but no worries-- I'm sure shots are cheaper there anyhow.

I've seen this list floating around the internet as well. However, I think that what is actually required varies by age, health status, and gender. For example, I am rather certain adults would not be required to take the rotavirus vaccine since it is against a disease that primarily affects infants and young children.

Does anyone know what vaccines they, their finacé(e) or spouse needed for K1 visa or AOS (country dependent)?

I actually did a lot of research on this topic yesterday becasue I was wondering the same thing. Here is what I discovered: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/schedules/downloads/adult/mmwr-adult-schedule.pdf that gives you a breakdown of the immunizations needed for adults.

I also had a question about the immunizations that are a series of 2 or 3 shots. I found this to be very helpful from USCIS Q&A section: (http://www.uscis.gov...0004718190aRCRD)

"Q. Certain vaccine series can only be completed with multiple visits to the civil surgeon. Am I required to complete the entire series before the civil surgeon can sign the Form I-693?

A. You are only required to receive a single dose of each vaccine when you visit the civil surgeon. You are encouraged to follow up with your private health care provider to complete the series. Once you have received the single dose appropriate at the time, the civil surgeon can sign and certify the Form I-693."

Hope this helps!

I posted about this the other day....

My fiancee is Mexican and nothing is required for the interview only for the AOS form I-693..

This was the answer I received..

Here's the chart that is still current. Pay attention to the ages because adults don't have to get the ones not under their age category.

http://www.cdc.gov/i...tions.html#tbl1

Here's another way to look at it

19 through 26 years- Td or Tdap (if DT, DTP or DTaP shown: okay to accept); MMR; Varicella; Influenza (during flu season only; October 1 through March 31)

27 through 49 years- Td or Tdap (if DT, DTP or DTaP shown: okay to accept); MMR; Varicella; Influenza (during flu season only; October 1 through March 31)

50 through 59 years- Td or Tdap (if DT, DTP or DTaP shown: okay to accept); MMR (if born in 1957 or later); Varicella; Influenza (during flu season only; October 1 through March 31)

If a person had chickenpox disease (varicella), then they are excused from the Varicella shot.

The Tetenus/Diptheria/Pertussis if taken as a child, sill has to have a booster not longer than 10 years ago.

I called a civil surgeon in Pittsburgh and they confirmed this info...

I was pretty excited as I was thinking it would be a bunch more. Not sure about the exacts for costa rica but this is the answer I got for the AOS part..

Good luck..

at_long_last-- make sure you're getting the vaccines you need! it's likely that by trying get everything on this list, you're paying too much $$ and unduly stressing your body out. if I understand it right, you should only need vaccines as required by this chart:

http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/civil/vaccination-civil-technical-instructions.html#tbl1

(joventud3 pasted it above, but the link was broken.)

it couldn't be a more useful link, as long as it universally applies to immigration. it matches what worth_the_wait posted as well.
