well they told me two weeks when i applied just on the k1 visa and 1-94 i assumed there was some checking and i got it less then a week later, so yeah if they said 4 weeks it could be sooner but just be prepared to wait for the 4 weeks :S

My wife didn't apply until she had the GC in hand and it took less than a week to get the number. If you're really in a hurry, you should ask at the SS office if you can call and get the number before they mail the actual card to you. It worked out for me because I have a cousin at the SS office, and while she wasn't allowed to actually work on our case she was able to help us get the number several days before the card arrived.

It can take anywhere from a week to 2 months because everytime an alien applies for a SSN (or wants to change name or remove restriction on SSN), SSA verifies their legal status with DHS first, so it depends on how quickly DHS verifies it.

My Immigration Journey:

K1: June 2010 - December 2010

AOS: April 2011 - June 2011

ROC: April 2013 - August 2013

Naturalization: March 2014 - August 2014

So yesterday i had this feeling that i should run through my SSN receipt one more time just to verify that my address was correct and it was but my name wasn't....i didn't check my name till then...i just thought that they wouldn't mess that up seeing that i spelled it on the SSN form and that they got my passport and EAD card with the correct spelling of my name...So today i went over to the SSN office and had them put the correct spelling, when she was done she told me that i should get my SSN card within 2 weeks and the reason is that they can now see my name in the system

USCIS does not issue SSNs....the SSA does that.

Once our K-2 got his EAD, we went to the office and registered for his and he received it in the mail in about 10 business days.
