I am in the USA through an F-2 visa; my mom came as a student and still is a student.

We recently received notice of our biometrics appointment.

By luck, my dad and i were able to do a walk in at our local USCIS service center, but when my mom and sister went in to get it done the next day, they denied them. So they have to go and get their biometrics on the assigned appointment date.

I am a senior in High school this year and i am starting to get worried.

I want to apply early decision for a school that i really want to go to, but because i cannot get financial aid without a green card, i am running into a lot of problems.

So my question is, how long will it take to get the actual green card after biometrics are done? Would getting it before march be impossible??

Is it true that it could take more than a year?

Can you get a social security number before you get your green card?

Any thoughts to share?

Some background info:

My parents applied for our green card through a family friend's business.

My dad has a court record [i don't really know full details because i'm only 18 years old] because he was caught working without a permit about 3 years back. He is afraid that this will hamper/ lengthen the process??
