Hi. I sent a letter to my fiance in the philippines via postal service and she never recieved it. After waiting for over a month she went to the p.o. and tried to collect it herself. However it is long gone and no where to be found. It made me think. If I have to send important papers/documents how should I do it? Use an American company like Fed-ex or hire a courrier? I know there is scan and then email option but there are so many papers. She would be charged for each page she has to print. I have never sent a PDF file before. Not sure I know how. My next concern was when time for her to get her packet from the Embassy how will she get it if its mailed? She'll need that to follow the directions and schedule her medical and interview. Then, the visa; it gets delivered. I heard they use some courrier service called 2go or something. So hope no problem there. Just want to know what others have done in this matter. thanks VJ MEMBERS. my thoughts to you and your fiancee... NEVER count on snail mail. When it must get there use a courier service. Well worth the extra dollars, pay now in money or pay later... much later with lost time...lol... pdf are easy. But you can also fax. Find any other method for your paperwork.

If you go look in the section where everyone from the Philippines posts they use a special service for the visa pick up. You should really read up on country specific section for help on this not in general forums!

We haven't had anything lost yet but the Philipinne post office has been slow without fail. It's not cheap either. I sent her a large package that took almost 2 months and a letter that took 1 month. I used FEDEX for the documents she needs for her Embassy Interview. Hope that helps.

Scanning is so easy, making a pdf is so easy. You can either research it online or pay through the nose. The hard part is buying a good scanner that will work for you. Read the reviews on Amazon.com and to educate yourself more

on it.

I don't think using mail through the Philippines is even safe. I think if you mail something from the US, it probably gets handed over to a Philippines government post office service ??? I don't risk that. I prefer to use one company that is responsible from start to finish. I pay through the nose to get a package sent but it is reliable. We have used Fed ex twice so far and I think it is $ 65.00 to send from the Philippines but to send the same package from America it is $ 100. Of course, this is a small package. Evidently Fed Ex has the right to make a profit !!!!

If you have to send something by US Post, use one of the options that gives a tracking number. I have yet to have one of these packages not arrive (pretty quickly), but things I sent without a tracking number have about a 60% chance of getting lost.

Op, use Fed Ex or DHL. You can not count on your important documents reaching your fiancee in a timely manner (if at all) through the regular mail in the Philippines.

Sure it is not cheap, but the documents are more important than the cost to send them. Also, as mentioned, look into scanning the documents that can be scanned. Good luck.

I am assuming you know you can send a huge box with as much as you can cram into by LBC for about 70 bucks. Takes about 1.5 months. By huge I mean 24 x 18. I think my last box weighed about 60 lbs.

If you use the Express Mail sevice at the post office it genarally takes 6 to 10 days but it is passed off to Fed-Ex and does not go through the local PI mail sevice...29$for document size envelope..use the flat rate envelopes and boxes

Hey Dan...Welcome to the Philippines Postal system. Don't give up on that letter yet. It's only been a month. If your fiancée doesn't get it in two more months, then you can kiss it goodbye.

Don't send anything to the Philippines through the U.S. Postal Service either. When it arrives in the Philippines, they turn it over to the Philippines Postal Service.

I sent everything by FedEx three-day Express with no problems. Got there in three days every time. Yup, it costs.

Her visa will be delivered by 2GO. The visa delivery cost is already included in the visa fee she will pay at BPI. No problems there.

Don't wait around for the letter or the email (what they call "packet 3") from the U.S. Embassy Manila. It notifies your sweetheart that she's eligible to schedule an interview and it gives her some other info that both of you should read. However, it takes them forever to send it, if at all. Instead, you can read it right here.

When my husband was sending me letter, cards, we are using Postal just the regular to save money and that time we are not rush. it take 3 weeks til I received it. So when our visa is on the way! lol We are just using pdf file. Some paper needs to be in orig. or if I need to send him something I use FedEx expensive but for sure that the very important papers are safe! and never be lost. about the postal what I did is .. I know when was the letter supposed to be in hand. I will go to the post office and ask the courier bcuz sometimes they are changing the person. meaning the other person whose familiarized with my name he already knows where our house is. no need to ask to other neighbors. just go and check the mail at post office if you think the mail she never received it they might change the courier and he never found your house or other some reasons! tnx

I have sent letters to my fiancee by US Postal mail and it doesn't take long getting there and it's cheaper, but the Philippine postal service isn't like ours and not too reliable. Some of the buildings there in Cebu don't have numbers on them and I can't figure out how they deliver mail there at all ?

It took about three weeks to a month by the time she recieved them and it's always best to mail several letters at a time, just in case one or two gets lost somehow. Fed Ex is good, but expensive ! I only used them to send some important documents to her and sent a Christmas package to her once before.. Not only was it expensive, they charged her a customs tax on the package too. She will get her mail, just keep sending her letters..
