Thank you so much for all of your response. As it stand, I already file the petition. I just recently found out about the co-sponsor. Now i guess is just wait for the interview to come since nothing much I can do. I will post back my process so anyone in the same situation can avoid any mistakes I have done. Thanks again everyone.

A couple of questions, if you don't mind.

Did you hire this consultant service before you filed the initial petition? If so, did they not go over the affidavit of support requirements with you at that time? Also, is this consultant service in the US or Vietnam? If in the US, do they specialize in immigration from Vietnam?

I ask these questions because any service with experience with immigration from Vietnam would know how much importance the consulate in HCMC puts on the cultural and traditional requirements. They would never have advised you to file before having an engagement ceremony.

Also, what point in the process are you at now? You said you filed the petition, and that you've just recently been told about the affidavit of support. Has the petition been approved yet? Has your fiancee received a packet of information and forms from the consulate, and has she sent her response to that packet? Has an interview been scheduled?

I ask these questions because if you're still early in the process then you may still have time to go to Vietnam and have a Dam Hoi. It's obviously much better to do this before you file the petition, but it can help even if you do it afterward. It's almost a certainty that the CO will ask about this at the interview, and they'll sometimes approve if the beneficiary can produce the pictures showing that they had a Dam Hoi, even if it was after the petition was filed.
