So my dad is about to become a US citizen. Should he convert the F2B cases he has pending for his children to F1? or sholud he let it be. Will converting to F1 mean longer wait for them? Thecases are in my signature. Appreciate insight before we decide what to do.. Does he even have a choice or say in it once he becomes a citizen (is the conversion automatic?)

In the November 2011 Visa Bulletin, the current Priority Date for the F1 category is July 22, 2004, and the current PD for the F2b category is August 1, 2003. It's a shorter wait in the F1 category.

Conversion is automatic when your father acquires US citizenship. The cases will be converted from F2b to F1 and the PDs will stay the same. The PDs do not change.

Although conversion is automatic, the NVC will not know that your father has acquired US citizenship unless he informs them. Your father must notify the NVC that he is a US citizen by submitting a photocopy of his naturalization certificate and information about the cases. (Ignore the "do not photocopy" language on the certificate - it is legal to make a copy when sending it to the US government.)

When I Filed a Petition for My Relative, I Was a Legal Permanent Resident (green card holder). I Recently Became a U.S. Citizen. How Can I Upgrade the Petition?

You should make a copy of your Naturalization Certificate. Send the copy - NOT the original - to the NVC with a letter containing the case number and beneficiary name of the petition you want to upgrade.

Please see the NVC’s contact information for our mailing address.
