I'll be honest. I doubt I'll ever be ready. Probably most people won't. Most of us are just soft and it's going to be a complete shock when the great machine breaks down and we have to do things the hard way again. I'm just hoping to not be such a soft target. Kind of like outrunning the other guy when a bear is coming.

You got it! And that's an important mindset to keep. I'm probably 1,000 times more ready than many but I'll never be ready enough.

Yeah...if they were $50, I'd probably consider more carefully. But at $15 or so, I actually like them best and don't mind paying a little more...I even opted for the ones with the little windows to see how many bullets are left. In any case, I'm looking to get a variety...that way if something turns out to be a piece of ####### it won't be a weak link.

HK mags are about $50. "They're the best!"

You're right to get several different kinds of something. Another trick to know how many bullets you have left... tracers. Use 'em at various points in your magazine and you'll know, "OK, I have five rounds left."

I think long-term though the best option would be a farm...some place out away from any population centers. I'd be in the live minimally and keep to myself camp as I think that's safest. Maybe once things settle down that would change. If the farm thing doesn't work...we'd probably head back to our roots in Kentucky...we still have relatives that live way out in the boonies where the roads still aren't paved and they pump their own water.

The only thing about a farm is it takes a long, long, long time to grow stuff. Having your own farm would be nice, but I believe we're all going to have to work together in small community groups to thrive. We can survive... or we can thrive.

Anyone can survive. But, only a community can thrive.

I admire my MIL as having been through the war as a young girl and the recovery she has a different view of things. She has been through the armegeddon you talk about, she has seen the financial system collapse TWICE and has NO trust of financial things or anything else that can be "taken away" from you. She was thrilled and said "Now I can die!" because her daughter now has a home by a large and clean lake with many fish to eat AND a big yard with "lots of good grass to eat, it makes good salads" She figures Alla is set for life now. It seems quaint but isn't that the same thing we are discussing?

And the wild dogs? "The dogs are good" she says, "It means everyone has enough to eat. You should have seen this city after the 2nd war...no dogs"

1/3 of americans would die in 3 weeks. Look at Hurricane Katrina, need we say more?

The water is coming from over there --------------->

<------------- walk THIS way.

If we cannot handle a relatively minor "disaster" like Katrina when there was NO damage just a couple miles away and helicopters could airlift in supplies from the city airport. C'mon. Dude, we are SO F*cked! Or at least a lot of people are.

The best analysis was the one that said it was "so bad" because it happened on the 29th of the month and most of the people were "waiting until the 1st for their welfare checks" Yeah but that has been "fixed" by direct deposit!

Before they died they'd cause a bunch of trouble for the rest of us.

There's another reason to have a gun(s) at hand if WROL (SHTF) hits...to turn it on yourself (maybe family too) if things go cannibal. Maybe it's you get radiation or biological poisoning. Maybe the crazy hordes are about to overwhelm your home. Maybe a group wants to exact racial or cultural revenge. Yes, you fight to the end...but maybe you'll have to be the source of "the end."

Not a nice thought...but giving yourself, and perhaps even family, a respectful demise will be a bitter test of the manhood in us. Administering your own coup de grâce.

Let's all give thanks that on this day we have rule of law...and guns.

Yep...those are too much. Not willing to go that high unless they do something really extraordinary.

Yeah. I really don't want to become a farmer...to be honest I'm not that big into fruits/vegetables...or the back-breaking work. Definitely best to be in a community once you find people you can trust and work with. That's why we might just try to disappear back into hicksville where my family came from. A little backwoodsy but good trustworthy folks.

I'd never kill myself with a gun. If anything I'd go get a motorcycle. Really...why do people ever kill themselves? You could become the greatest daredevil of all time...for a bit!!!

I seriously doubt cannibalism would be a problem...it's not like we'd be snowed in some place where there is really nothing to eat. Most places people will find something to eat...grass, or even the old ####### sitting around in everyone's kitchens that they have had for like 10 years but just never get around to throwing out.

No more so than that big old muzzle blast and flash of fire coming out of the end of your rifle.

Die. In about 3 weeks, sooner if they have no water. Darwin theory

I used "cannibal" as a metaphor for people getting way crazy and operating mostly from their reptilian brain...although cannibalism and humans have a long and grizzly history.

Hope you got that motorcycle handy and fueled up (if there's fuel). And how might you find a nice cliff to ride off of when you're trapped in your house?

I let loose a few rounds (and a HUGE fireball!) this weekend with the Draco. It works just fine and is, by far, my favorite "pistol." However, it's still just a tad too big for carry and I need a good sidearm.

I almost popped on a Rock Island with a compensator and flared magwell, good trigger, etc. ($450) but then I found a Para P14 Limited in OD Green for $600. It's on the way! My search is over.

Can't wait to dump 30 rounds of 7.62x39 out of the Draco and then finish that mean old paper target off with 14 more rounds of .45ACP. HUZZAH!!!

That gets good reviews....double stacked, correct?
