Gun PORN! Two hot guns on a blanket! They look good. On the full size reifle I prefer the carry handle sights but for the carbine I would prefer the rail mount...problem solved...GET BOTH! There is no such thing as an "all around rifle" :P

Yes very nice.

Now....the first thing you need......besides ammo....is

A nice Sling for each.

I suggest Turner.....check out their 'seconds'

Google Turner Saddlery

Know how to properly use a sling is a big key to offhand (not propped up on a bench) shooting. It will be what you want for SHTF!

My thoughts exactly! Can't make up your mind...don't! I figure one I will deck out a little and the other keep it simple.

That's on my list! I will check them out. I ordered a bunch of ammo...I got some pretty good stuff I think, but it was a little over a buck a bullet (1 shot, 1 kill). I'm looking at getting some cheap bulk stuff for practice as well.

Also still looking at scopes and other accessories for one of them. But sling and magazines are next.

Good suggestion! Phil suggested this for a source for Alla;s birthday present. I bought one for Alla for her birthday. They really are gargain on a very good quality piece of equipment. They are also "RUB woman approved" Alla says it is "good looking" and you know that is important!

Now I am working with her in the basement on her shooting positions and use of the sling.

FYI she used to be against shooting in the basement. :P

Huh? What caliber? .50 cal will be a buck a cartridge (a cartridge consists of: a casing, gunpowder, bullet and primer)

.223 will run around $.25 - $.30 each, depending on quality. Aim Surplus is a good resource, Wideners also.

Here's a good resource for information; obviously read and ask around.

I like leather but for a WROL sling, not sure leather is the best choice. Leather and wetness and climate change in the great outdoors don't mix well. I went through two sets of jungle boots in 6 months in Vietnam. I know leather went through world wars but I'd be more apt to go with a synthetic webbing sling for SHTF work. Lighter and dries quickly and obeys you better in weird positions. Blackhawk and 5.11 are sources for such slings.

But...the leather is nice looking and feels good, not to mention that great leather scent.

Sythetic is good for what you mention but useless for match shooting. Synthetics slip when you pull a tight shooting sling, esoecailly in standing or rapid fire. Leather has a "grip" and locks itself into your shooting coat and will not move.

I have also not seen a synthetic sling that has the adjustment locks like a M1907 NM leather sling. They can easily get out of adjustment.

Other than that, synthetics are great, just not great for target shooting.

I'm sure you're right about target slings and maybe hunting in some cases.

But you won't find leather slings in combat theaters. The one-point sling is popular as is the 3-point, and there's aways the standard 2-point...all webbing.

With that said, I'll tell you that in Vietnam we didn't initially get slings, even in 1968. The ones that showed up were pretty crappy, and some guys used the equivalent of 550 cord to make slings. After I'd been there awhile I wrote home and told my dad to sent me the leather sling off my WWI German Mauser. He shipped it and I put it on my M-16. Worked good and I liked the feel of it, and it was the best I could get. I was wounded after a few weeks so I can't attest to it's handling the humid jungle conditions, but I'm pretty sure it would have been ok.

The initial sling for the M16 seemed an after thought and many used the old M1 web sling which came along in WW2 as a cheap substitute to the M1907 leather sling. Seems like a lot of the M16 was an after thought initially. Do not even get me started on the triangular, reverse taper forend

The new ones all seem well thought out and allow carrying the rifle in a better position for a combat rifle and there is no question the synthetics are more durable and they are replacing leather almost everywhere. It is also a function of the rifle size and weight. I am trying to imagine carrying an M1 or M14 in the position these guys carry the M4 in now.

But it is kind of full circle in that the old horse cavalry carried rifles on straps snapped to the lanyard ring in much the same position as the troopers carry them now, a bit lower perhaps and more to the side, but a similar idea.

I also usually did not use a sling if hunting in heavy brusj but I kept one in mt pocket for carrying the rifle when dragging out deer, or I would snap it in place when I got on a stand to use for a shooting sling. I used the QD swivels for that but I do not use those for target shooting, they can be broken when you sling up tight.

Next thing I'm looking for is a shotgun. I want to go semi-auto. So far the one I'm leaning towards is the Mossberg 930 SPX. Any others that are better than that or is that a decent one to go for?

600 yards is a piece of cake and 1000 yards always on target.

With that rifle you should have no problem. If it's dialed in, a semi-decent shooter ought to have no problem as well.

I got some pretty good stuff I think, but it was a little over a buck a bullet (1 shot, 1 kill).

For a buck each, those better be mk318mod0 rounds.

For cheap stuff, I like Silver Bear 62gr. BTHP. Cheap and accurate.

Slings - you can get pretty much any tactical sling and it'll do fine. Viking, Blackhawk!, etc., etc., all make good ones. Magpul makes a pretty decent one as well.

For accessories might I recommend the Magpul B.A.D., ASAP, RSA, etc. After that, it's pretty much whatever you personally want. Oh, and get a GI cleaning kit as well. There's all these new Otis kits and whatnot, and they're awesome, but having a rod might save your life.

Next thing I'm looking for is a shotgun. I want to go semi-auto.
