Why not smuggle her out on a boat? She could fly to Vlad, hop a ship to Fairbanks, and disappear into the wilderness. You guys could pick her up, drive through a Canadian entry point (that's not even manned) and she'd be in the US within about six weeks.

*This post is for entertainment purposes only.*

Actually she has a very good chance of pleading political asylum. I would think she would be a shoo in for that. And getting out of Russia is a piece of cake.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Are you kidding me?? She would never leave Russia. In fact she is such a Russian patriot that she was literally trying to convince me to move to Russia as opposed to her daughter moving here. She just wanted to come for the wedding. She would never move to US permanently. Unfortunately for us considering that she is elderly and at some point some one will have to provide her care..

She can thank her Stalin loving government for not letting her attend her own daughters wedding. That right there should give her food for thought.

I know! This completely puzzles me. They pretty much treated her like ###### and yet she wouldn't even consider moving! Amazes me how people can get treated like ###### and still be loyal. On the other hand I completely understand her: when you turn 60 and you lived all your life in one country it is hard to move.

In general I think Russia is getting back where it started 30 years ago.. but in worse form. I am afraid to let my wife go there because I wouldn't be surprised if suddenly they decide not to let her go back.

The worst thing about her situation is that her boss knew about the wedding and did it on purpose. Recently her boss was making all sorts of remarks about Masha being here in US...

You just explained the typical Russian mindset in a single sentence. Russia's last "enlightenment period" (Russia's industrial revolution) was when Stalin started the mass transformation and it cost over 20 million lives yet most of them still look at Stalin like he was a god send. And when you call them on any of Stalin's atrocities the first words out of their mouths is that "Stalin was Georgian".

On the other hand I completely understand her: when you turn 60 and you lived all your life in one country it is hard to move.

She's lived half her life in the Commie system and she doesn't sound like she's in for change. It's too late for her.

Russia can't go back 30 years for the fact it never changed in the first place. New name, same old bosses, same corrupt system. Tsar Putin was endorsed by Yelstin and it was Yeltsin who made the original play on Belarus and Chechnya. Russia has only known tyrants and dictators during it's entire history.

The worst thing about her situation is that her boss knew about the wedding and did it on purpose. Recently her boss was making all sorts of remarks about Masha being here in US...

It's because one of their own successfully got out of that h*ll hole and they look at it as a spit in the face against Mother Russia while feeling envy at the same time. They can't punish the daughter so they take it out on the mother.

Extremely well-said. I completely agree. It just sucks that she cannot come for the wedding. Her dad will though. Everything would be fine if I did not feel responsible for her getting fired. On the other hand it was all her fault. My wife told her 100 times: do not tell anyone that I am leaving. She did not listen and reported this event as supposed to according to the rules to FSB department at her work. This is the result. Because you cannot be honest and obedient in Russia. All the law-obedient citizens in this country get screwed.

My first trip to Belarus was on a invitation visa that my wife had a supervisor at her university sign (one she could count on keeping their mouth shut). Well the OVIR's office called up her university to let her know who and how she was spending her 30 day vacation with in Minsk. She suffered but talked he way out of it by saying I was hooked up with her sister and she was just covering for her. I went back again...this time to get married and her grandmother blurted it out to anyone and everyone that her granddaughter was marrying an American (when she was told my my wife to keep her mouth shut about it). There's a few professors from my wife's university that live in the same apt. complex as her grandmother, word got out to them and my wife lived a living h*ll until she finally got here. And when she did fly out she flew out of Kyiv and not Minsk so she didn't have to worry about catching any bs with the Belarusian authorities over her stepping out on her doctorate.

And when some people...usually older ones and women saw her with an American man they looked at her like she was the biggest pos on earth. We got that look several times.

Yeah.. Has she been back since that time? I think Belarus is even worse than Russia, isn't it?

She fly's into Moscow now and takes a train into Belarus. Belarus is worse than Russia in a lot of ways, but in a lot of ways it's very similar. Tsar Putin controls just as much media as Lukashenko does in Belarus and murder for murder I would have to say Tsar Putin has the edge over Lukashenko. Tsar Putin is one cold character, and he knows how to play the brainwashed masses over there.

Between the RUB media, school system, and ROC it's one giant dose of brainwashing.

san diego, I'm pretty sure your wife will be fine if she goes to Russia to visit her parents. But if she needs to exchange her travel passport, do it in the consulate while she's in the States, don't go to OVIR in Russia. If I try really hard, I might find a livejournal post, explaining exactly why.

Why_Me, first of all, if FSB wants to track Russian citizens abroad, they might as well read visajourney and a whole lot of other immigration forums. they might be reading one of your posts or my posts right now. I don't care and I think that the US intelligence might be tracking Russian immigrants too.

second of all, I haven't seen many people in Russia, who liked Stalin. There are far more neo-Nazis, who like Hitler in Russia. For me Stalin and Hitler are pretty much the same thing. And Stalin was in fact Georgian, while Hitler didn't look quite Aryan either.

TV is a brainwashing machine anywhere, that's why we just refer to it as a "zombie-box".

Seriously, chill out with the Russia hate. Your MIL knew what the deal was when she signed the contract and it's obvious to me why having a daughter in the US, married to an American=security risk. I doubt I'd be able to get security clearance for the CIA, etc. in the USA either. There are certain jobs in Russia whereupon you sacrfice your right to travel abroad at all. My friend's cousin is some kind of rocket scientist and can never leave Russia. People who take these jobs are well aware of the restrictions placed upon them in return for the chance to have a prestigious position. To be shocked and appalled and to think that some lawyer out in California ( ) can help you with this when actually nothing that Russia is doing is outside of the law or even terribly outrageous is good for a laugh on a Tuesday night when I should be writing some essay about Putin.

For what it's worth, no one has ever been a jerk to me about being an American, either. Although I am guessing that worldwide, young blonde women get treated better than middle-aged men.

Nobody believes the media, very few people actually pay attention the what the ROC says, and as for the school system, well, I know very few people young enough to have gone through the school system in the past five years but I think that Russians, on the whole, are very, very cynical and believe less bull$#!t than people throwing Tea Parties in the US.

His mother in law catching sh*t from her supervisor for the fact she applied for a US visa to see her daughters wedding is about typical for over there. I don't believe any of us on here were born yesterday or fell off the last box car.

They didn't seem to have a problem with her traveling Schengen countries in the past.

So where does Tsar Putin's NASHI Hitler Youth fit into all this?

It seems, if you read back, that the MIL allowed a new background check and it was only then discovered that her daughter married an American and moved to America.

So where does Tsar Putin's NASHI Hitler Youth fit into all this?

Eh, whatever. It's not actually a huge youth movement, just something that has captured media attention in the West. I do know some Nationalists, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with Putin and his government. I do think that Nationalist fearmongering is something that helps to distract from other pressing problems, but I don't see how it's any different from, say, people going on about ILLEGAL MEXICANS TAKING OUR JOBS!!!11 Same sort of deal, same kind of stupid.

You do know the Russian nationalist have ties with the neo NAZI movement in Russia ? And you do know that that Tsar Putin's NASHI Hitler Youth Movement was started by Tsar Putin himself to deter any type of Orange like revolution in Russia? And you do know that these same Russian nationalist were not only responsible for the deadly riots in Estonia during the relocation of the Bronze Occupier statue, but also for physical attacks against the ambassador's of Sweden and Estonia on Russian soil and that not one was convicted in the Russian court even though the crimes were filmed?

The brutal murders of attorneys and human rights workers have been traced back to these Russian nationalist. The same nationalist that Tsar Putin supports in his brainwashing camps across Russia. Read up on a fellow named "Dmitry Rogozin" or even "Vladimir Zhirinovsky". The former is Tsar Putin's NATO rep. for Russia, and the latter is a frequently reelected member of the Russian Duma.

Let me know when the Tea Party comes anywhere close to these nationalist thugs who are Kremlin supported with Tsar Putin's endless supply of state oil and gas money.

btw about those illegal Mexicans... They are a lot safer than any dark skinned minority walking the streets of Moscow where minorities from such places as the Caucus regions and the "stan countries" get beat up on an almost constant basis. I'm not sure if your on house arrest or what, but seriously ekee for someone living in Russia you don't seem to be too keen on the ins and outs of that country.
