Hello RUB,

As some of you might (or might not) know, RUB countries will no longer switch clock two times every year and will reside in constant time-zones: UTC+3 for Ukraine, Belarus and Kaliningrad Oblast, UTC+4 for Moscow and onwards for Russia.

The pros of such a move include less stress for the "biological" clock (circadian rhythms), easier time-reckoning if you're in the U.S. and don't have to wonder if the country is UTC+2 or UTC+3 this time of the year.

The cons - darker mornings and less energy savings.

Ultimately, do you think it is a good thing or a bad thing?

Good. Less government meddling in our lives.

The idea always seemed a bit ridiculous to me. You cannot get the sun to come up or go down any earlier or later than dictated by the laws of physics. When I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska the sun would not go down until 1AM in June! How can it be 'mid'night when it is still day? DST is nothing more than a mind game. If you want to enjoy more daylight in the summer than just get up earlier!!

#### You! :hehe:

I HATE getting up early!

(just kidding James)

You are right. The hours of daylight do not change, it is what it is based on your latitude at any given time and that is it.

I vacationed once in Cancun which is considerably closer to the equator and farther east than Florida but is still in the (our) central time zone and they do not have DST so I awoke to bright daylight and thought it must be 6 or 7 am. No. 3am! #######!? Then it got dark at about 6pm. I asked the cab driver..."Jeezum, what time does it get dark in winter?" About 6pm.

To me, it just means deer season is getting closer.

Out here in Siberia, it is dark when I get to work and dark when I leave. In summer, it is light before I wake up and light after I am home for the night. DST can't change that :( It is just more confusing to figure out the time difference from USA.

Last I heard Russia was going to put Kallingrad in the same time zone as Moscow. I wonder how that's working out for the Kremlin?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
