i just got a reply from the consulate took 6 days to answer me but here is what it says !!!

Thank you for your inquiry.

On the day you filed the I-130 petition for your child, you had to pay the filing fee.

On the day of your child’s visa interview a fee of AUS$404 must be submitted.

Thank you

Sincerely,

Immigrant Visa Unit

(MR)

Note: You should never pay for travel arrangements (e.g., airfare, hotels) without having a visa in your possession. The U.S. Consulate General accepts no responsibility if you do so. Generally, it will take 5 business days to print your visa and prepare your document package after your interview; however, we are unable to guarantee the issuance of a U.S. visa before a fixed travel date. You risk significant financial losses if you ignore this advice.

Yes it can be paid on the day what the Sydney consulate requires is that visas are paid for at post office and your son will take that to the interview. This is his receipt.

See here: http://canberra.usembassy.gov/iv-fees.html it explains the fees and when they're due to be paid. If you've ONLY paid the filing fee so far then yes there's more due, if you've paid the filing fee AND the IV fee then make sure your son takes the receipt.

Can you please explain what you've paid so far for the process? Filing fee was how much and when did you pay that? IV fee was how much and when did you pay that?
