We are going in on Friday for I-485 interview.

We have two couples who will do letters for us stating they know us since (date), how we've interacted, what they think about us being together, etc.

Question is - do we keep it warm and simple as a letter and then the notary can notarize the bottom? Or should they look more formal like below? Thanks!

Example

AFFIDAVIT

STATE OF ________

COUNTY OF __________

BEFORE ME, the undersigned authority, personally appeared [name of person making the declaration], Affiant, who swore or affirmed that:

* 1. Affiant [Put here that Affiant says this, that or the other thing. Use as many numbers as needed and see examples below].

* 2. Affiant has personally known ____________________ for over ___ years.

* 3. Affiant attests that [same thing, what else does the Affiant say?].

it won't hurt any thing, free at most banks ,for notary looks formal.

Tx for reply...

I am not worried about notary fees. What I am worried about is taking something that should appear somewhat heartfelt and genuine and making it look like a sham.

If the words in the affidavit are 'heartfelt and genuine' and it is notarized then I think that would be OK.

Just looking for practical experience from others. Thx

I wouldn't make it overly formal and pseudo- "legal." Obviously it should be serious, but I would make it like a formal letter and not a court deposition. The writer must give their name address and identifying numbers on the affidavit per the instructions, so if any of the information is suspect USCIS can contact them directly. Good luck.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Thanks that is what I thought. We have two letters coming, one from a couple we live with in our community and the other from a colleague/friend of mine.

What kind of sucks is that on her end she has no one here but her aunt which would be a biased letter. So the two letters are basically my friends (who now know her) making the endorsement. Maybe that is fine though?

I have a question about this also, if someone's writing you an affidavit letter, basically what sort of content is suitable? 'I've known X for X years, I can attest to the fact they are a real couple' - it sounds a little odd.

I think the more personal the better. USCIS know you are married (by the marriage cert)... what they want to know is something about you. Your friend/family member can say how often you socialize, when they met the spouse, how they heard about the spouse before they met, etc.

Great, thanks again Harpa. I was hoping that to be the case, something along the lines of 'we often go out to eat with X and have done X with X' etc, giving a little info into the kind of relationship that the friend has with us. Thanks!
