I am not sure about your country.

But I can tell you, while you think it is just a ritual and not legal, it is depends how the CO will look at that, as they may consider it as legal ceremony which will make you ineligible for K-1 visa and you will need to apply for CR-1 (spousal visa).

Ive seen many cases get denied because they take it as a legal ceremony or they beleive the marriage was accompanied by a legal binding as well. This was originally what i wanted to do as well but I ended up not because I didn't want to risk it. In my country its just a ritual but in the eyes of the person reviewing your case it may be more. Im sorry to bare bad news =(

If you are not married and it was not legal, there is no need to even mention it at.

You don't want to try to complicate your situation any more. If you want to include pictures of you (which are secondary), why not send others that aren't from that ceremony?

I would strongly advise going one step further. There is a great need NOT to mention it at all.

symbolic ceremony is still a ceremony. Under a k-1 you must NOT get married (legal or not). There's a situation in Egypt where a USC male filed a K-1 visa. In the middle of it, he went to Egypt and did a symbolic ceremony in a mosque. The poor guy has to file a CR-1 which adds up to 2 years to his already long wait. Islamic marriages are not even recognized, but with a couple of forms, it's legal.

So, I'd say, do not mention it at all and show them pictures of you together and such. Prepare for the worst but hope for the best.

Good luck!

Don't ever do anything you're not willing to explain the paramedics.

I have girl friend who married an American. They did small ceremony according Islam rules. But they did not apply marriage certificate at local office. Just for small family to make it legally according their own religion. But they applied for fiance (e) visa. My guess is, like other poster said, just not saying anything about that. Oh the news is they had been approved many years ago..innocent.gif

The US recognizes religious weddings. I can never fathom why people would do this. You have an excellent chance of being denied a K-1 visa because of this, it has happened over and over and been well reported here at VJ
