Please can someone give me some clarification. I am filing out the Adjustment of Status form I-485 and I want to know where i can find my A number? Perhaps I havent got one yet? Does anyone know if I should have one having got here 2 months ago on a K1 Visa and I am now married as of last week. Also, how soon will my EAD (Employment Authorization Document) come through in order for me to be able to work? Can I work with just a Social Security number and no EAD document? K

Your A# is located on your NOA2 immediately above your name (if you are the beneficiary). It looks like this: A 123 456 789. It has exactly 9 numbers. You cannot work without your EAD. EAD and AP are usually approved before AOS and from what I've seen on VJ, it takes 2-3 months for EAD approval. Don't quote me on that, and someone please correct me if I am wrong. Be blessed.

or if you want to be lazy and not find your NoA, get out your passport flip to your visa, and it is on there, the CBP person should have circled it for you (at least he did for me) and you need an EAD or GC before you can work as a k1 visa holder your ssn will be stamper with (can work with dhs authority)

No you cannot work unless you have an EAD or green card. You are NOT legal to work without one of thos documents.

EAD takes around 3 months after filing AOS.

Your A# is on your NOA2 approval notice. Or sometimes on the visa or written on the I-94. You do have an A# and it is your number for your life, it is just as important as your SSN number in the USA.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

No. Never trust the visa. It is often wrong. Trust ONLY the NOA2.

USCIS issues you the A number after they create a file for you i.e. after they receive your application(s).

If you have not filed anything yet or haven't gotten in trouble with the law then you don't have one yet, but

you should use the number on your I-94 which is 11 numbers (it's 9 digits plus 2 extra numbers), use all the numbers.

Otherwise if you have already filed and received a NOA then you should check that for your I-94.

If you still have doubts Google 'difference between immigration A number and I-94' so you can get clarity.

Ummm what? Nothing you wrote is correct.

The A number and I-94 are NOT interchangeable. You cannot just put the I-94 number where it asks for the A (Alien) number. The I-94 number is your "Arrival/departure" number.

You also don't get an A number when you get in trouble with the law.

The OP arrived on a K1 and can find the A number on their NOA2 from the K1.
