So do you feel your an Alaskan? For instance I still feel that I am a Missourian despite not living there since 2000. I moved to Kansas for 5 years and the UK before coming to California.

Close to thirty years up here so I lean towards Alaska, but I'm still a Washington Husky and Seattle Seahawks and Mariners fan also. Washington state as gone to h*ll since I moved up here the first time. It's sucksville, usa. Californians from Silicone Valley took it over and wrecked it when MS became the big hit. It will never be the same.

Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Well lets say there are 3 people in the space. I would subdue the person with gun first.

That's my whole point. Even carrying an empty weapon makes you "more of a threat" than someone without one.

So, if you're being run through the victim selection process by your local street criminal, is it more likely they'll choose you to victimize or someone without a gun openly displayed?

"Open Carry" advocates are carrying UNLOADED WEAPONS.

It's still a weapon. It's still on your person. And, legally speaking... you're still armed.

Being armed has nothing to do with the state of readiness of the weapon. If you're carrying bullets in your pocket, you're just as armed as you are if there's one in the pipe and the safety is off.

You are unarmed, because THE WEAPON IS UNLOADED.

You are not unarmed.

Having a gun on your side and magazines in your pocket is a much better state of readiness than having no gun on your side and no magazines in your pocket.

If the criminal is looking to take your wallet, yeah, you are probably right.

If he is armed, on drugs and looking to knock over the place it is more likely he will cap you in the back of the head and eliminate the threat because you announced WHO the possible threat IS. Bad idea.

It is the same concept as having ballistic missile submarines and mobile ICBMs, no one knows where the threat is, only that it IS there. Somewhere. THAT is why a relatively few armed people can make such a difference in the crime rate.

People who hate guns can flop around all they want, and state that the reason for crime is not guns but other factors and then refuse to quantify the other factors(thank you for that!) but the REASON Vermont has low crime is because it is well known that people carry concealed handguns and that ANYone can carry them. And it has ALWAYS been that way. Which guy or gal do you rob? Do they have a gun? What about the guy over there? If I rob HER, will HE pull out a gun and shoot me? And with the exception of a few federal government buildings, you NEVER see those mamby pamby "no guns allowed" signs. Are you kidding me?

Even the most liberal of the liberals, and believe me we have them here, have figured this out and NEVER even broach the subject. Our very liberal new Democrat Governor has implemented more firearms and hunter education in our schools and is a big hunter of deer, bear and moose.

If Vermont (hypothetically, of course) passed stupid laws and you were ONLY allowed to open carry an unloaded gun, would you do so? Or, would you just simply stop carrying a gun?

Keep in mind the folks in occupied territories aren't allowed to exercise their legal rights and thus, to be in compliance with the law, have to openly carry or not carry at all. Are you saying they should disarm?

And before you go jumping on the "no, they should contact their legislators and get good laws in place" (agree, by the way) what do they do in the mean time? Walk around unarmed?

Seriously? I would move from Vermont and let them know why. No kidding. I moved here, I can move out. If the reasons I moved here were taken away, I would move out. Simple. No, I am not kidding. I can make a living wherever I decide to live. And probably shovel less snow. The firearms laws and the low crime, not to mention the stunning, I mean truly stunning beauty, clean water, crystal clear clean water, trout fishing, all of that combined to convince me. If the compensation for tolerating the winters (OK I like to ski but I can always live in Pheonix and drive to Flagstaff to do that)changes, I am out of here! In fact, if I could afford TWO houses, I would live in Arizona, one in Phoenix area and one in Flagstaff area.

I would not disarm, if that is what you are asking, and I would not carry an unloaded handgun openly (or a loaded one for that matter)

Since I asked hypothetically, I'll ignore that entire first paragraph.

What you're saying is you'd continue to carry a concealed firearm in violation of the law?

Just to clarify, is that what you do in other states? Canada?

Was I in some way unclear? Slim, you have stated you may consider keeping your firearms off-site. I would never do that but why? Are you seriously asking me to detail some, thing that may be illegal?

You asked what I would do if Vermont (where I live) changed the law. I answered.

I was asking if you'd comply with the law by openly carrying a weapon or if you'd violate the law by carrying concealed.

What are Californians supposed to do? Of course your answer is "it's not like that in Vermont" and that's why I asked the hypothetical of it being like that in Vermont. Let me take it a step further. What if it was like that everywhere and moving wasn't an option?

What if the law where you live was unloaded OC only? What would you do then?

Do you really think you'll get an honest answer from Gary? False bravado from an aging man is more likely.

my concern about open carry of an unloaded firearm - it can lead to some unpleasant situations for the police and the average citizen. as you know, one needs to be fairly close to know it's unloaded.

if an armed robbery occurred nearby, and the responding police just happened to drive by on the way to the scene and passed someone close to the description of the perp and was holding a firearm, what do you suppose would happen?

it wouldn't be good.........

Are you trying to let the air out of this thread or something?

Why would someone intentionally live in Alaska?

It's 8:42am here atm, and I have my coffee next to me and ESPN Sports Center on the tube. My sweats and slippers feel comfortable as usual, and soon I will make the big hike off of the EZ chair into the kitchen for a piece of chocolate cake. My plans for the day consist of posting on here and surfing some pr0n while checking out FB now and then.

On an active note, I did make the wife breakfast before she left for work this morning. Yay for unemployment checks.

You know, you could have done that anywhere. How is that a response to The Dude's question?

Your right.

Let me answer his question. In Alaska we have what's called "choice". Unlike a Bolshevik state where the government controls most all your actions, up here we make our own decisions. In fact I do think I shall wear my LOADED hog leg strapped to my side when I walk over to the mini mart today for a white chocolate mocha. Yes I can!
