I will become eligible to apply for naturalization in late October and I would like to ask for your help. I know it's impossible to predict when the USCIS would schedule me for appointments but I would like your input whether you think this is safe to do or not.

I would like to become a citizen as soon as possible so I wouldn't like to put off my naturalization too much anymore...I won't be available between 4-16 Dec and 17 Jan-3 Febr (it's out of my control, I can't put these off).

When do you think it is a good time for me to file my application so that the fingerprinting, interview or oath dates wouldn't interfere with these dates?

I was thinking about early December as my filing date because the FP appointment would then be in late Dec or early Jan (or is this too much of an assumption only?).

My question is if you guys think filing in early December (around the 1st) would allow me to avoid getting called in for the FP, interview or oath between 17 Jan and 3 February?

My field office is in San Antonio which is considered pretty quick and efficient. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Filing around 12/01 seems to be the way to go based on your timeline. I would still suggest that you have someone check your mail while you are gone so that you do not miss any important USCIS correspondence. On the other hand, I am more leaning towards playing it safe and hence, I would apply once I am back and have no immediate travel plans. Rescheduling things with USCIS can be problematic and can delay the whole process significantly.

Keep in mind that you can always reschedule your FP and interview. The dates are not written in stone. For FP, you can always try an early walkin and see if you can finish it if the scheduled date is not good.

The naturalization process has three bangs: biometric, interview, and Oath. These three are usually separated by about a month, so there's really no way to predicting with any degree of certainty when none of these three will create any conflict of your existing schedule.

My advice: file relatively early, meaning this month, so that you have your interview about 3 months later, and if the Oath appointment comes in the way, reschedule it.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
