Can someone please tell me what should i do?

General Info:

After i graduated from college (F-1 Visa, expire on 2014), I married to my boyfriend (USC) and send out all the green card applications on August 15, 2011. I just finished my biometrics on september 28, 2011 and now waiting for further nitice. My passport is going to be expired on January 2012.

And my questions are:

Should i renew my passport while my green card case is pending? or should i wait until i recive my green card?

Thank You

Topic moved from AOS from a family based visa to AOS from a Work, Student & Tourist Visa as OP is adjusting from a student visa.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I'm not sure what the correct answer is, but I waited to file my AOS until after my passport was renewed. I didn't want USCIS to stamp my old expired passport - just in case. Also, I want to be able to travel as soon as I receive my green card. You won't be able to do that on an expired passport.

My embassy gave me back my expired passport, so I wasn't worried about showing up with a different passport at the interview. They also let me keep the old passport while they produced the new one, so you don't run the risk of showing up to the interview with no passport at all. I don't see any drawback to you at least starting the process.

Whatever makes you happy.

Just make sure you have your old passport with you when you go to the interview.

You will need a new passport only after January of next year and only if you plan on traveling internationally.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
