Its pretty common to do fake marriages and forced marriages to get a UK green card.

Backing out can result in the girl's throat being cut by her father or brothers as a promise is promise after all and one must do the honorable thing

Could this happen in the US ?

This is the latest from the BBC

I bet this has already happened in the US more than a few times now and it just hasn't hit the news yet.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I hope you are not judging other peoples culture?

Heck I judge the culture in Texas, so no way is Bangladesh (Eastern Pakistan) going to get a pass

I felt like cutting my daughter's throat when she divorced a multi millionaire - but we don't do that sort of thing - so I introduced him to a real slapper instead.

The slapper was the daughter of my ex girlfriend - so my grandchildren's half siblings are the children of my ex girlfriend's daughter

Wow it sound like Mountain County, Tennessee when I put it that way

I once had a blind date with a woman who said she tested cultures of bacteria at the sewage works. She had long greasy black hair and dirty fingernails.

Bunged her half a lager and exited stage left

Forced marriage means they stay married in almost every case - they dare not do any different or it can mean death - so I don't think it would be detectable by the USCIS coz she will be nodding at all times

I am not sure of the extent of immigration into the US by those cultures who practice arranged/forced marriages

I know there were regular reports in the UK with the occasional murder by father/brothers when the girl didn't comply

And, to make it worse, there is still another approach which totally bypasses the I-751.

The outside-of-US located foreigner only has to find someone who is in (most oft work-based) GC-process at less than final-stage (meaning anywhere from initial filing of PERM to I-140 approval), whereby a derivative-spouse GC can be obtained.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Eh, Austin does seem to have missed the last 40 years (the length of time Bangladesh has been independent from the suppressions--analogous to those suffered by South African "homelands" from the English/Dutch-based governments 1902-1995--of Pakistan). I'd love to see how he fares after making that statement to a Bangla (or better yet, after he makes it in Chittagong, Dhaka, Comilla, ...).

I am sure they would debate it in the civilized manner we taught them ?

We also taught the Indians not to burn widows alive after the death of their husbands

" We hang widow burners", we told them and that stopped it. Big men, they burned widows but were scared by a length of English hempen rope.

Typical ingratitude of those lifted out of ignorance by the Empire

We in the West are now having to teach the Moslems not to cut the throats of their daughters when they fall in love with married men or refuse to marry whom they are told to

Their own governments ought to make more effort to educate them in these matters
