Uh, for those who don't patronize either network, to what does a "tag" refer, huh man?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

OK TBoneTX, this is how it works. Very complex!

I write your name and it will give me the option to make your name appear as a hyperlink which lets me know I am tagging you. If I do not want to tag you then I just continue typing without either hitting enter to confirm the tag or taking my mouse and clicking on the hyperlink over your name...That sounded really confusing, I know...

Basically the point is that if, for example, I tagged your name in my first sentence....Visa Journey will then notify you by private message (or a pop-up notification if you are online) that I mentioned you in one of my posts. So you click the link that VJ provides you and it will directly take you to my post in this particular thread...

Basically tagging = mentioning someone with the site notifying that someone that they were mentioned (and providing a link to the conversation)...

In what sort of instances would you see that as useful? Couldn't you just PM the member yourself, saying something like "hey, I know you have a lot of experience with X, could you weigh in on my topic here: link ?".

I love the idea

Fell in love on a missions trip in 2005, got married in 07, got pregnant and started IR1 visa process in 08, had baby number 2 in 10, and its now 2011, and we are just now finally getting to the end of this long road. (The mail from the embassy never arrives to my home, causing us trouble. Fingers crossed and prayers going up! Both kids born and raised in Mexico and American citizens by CRBA:

I don't think you understand the concept.

Tagging is a way to refer to another member in a public forum and notify them of this referral at the same time.

I'm guessing this is a Facebook feature and your description mirrors the way it is implemented on Facebook?

I have seen tags implemented in a couple ways. One to identify members in picture (Facebook), the other is to assign a keyword (metadata) to an item to make it easier to find in a search, or by the use of a tag cloud, for example.

I do understand what you mean; I use G+, LJ and Facebook, all of which have tagging featured. I don't think tagging for key words is needed here, because we have a search function. I don't think tagging for members is needed, because you can quote a member, or PM the member saying that you'd like their input/ would like them to see the post you have made. Tagging for photos aren't needed, because we don't have a big photo feature here. This is my personal opinion, not as a mod.

If something that is currently done can be done with fewer steps, why not? I'd posit that is precisely what technology is meant to do.

Let's say I want to put forward an idea and give a tip of the hat to Kathryn who first suggested it many months ago. I could enter the idea here, tag Kathryn and she'll automagically know I referred to her. Currently, I'd have to enter the idea here and then send Kathryn a PM. Nothing wrong with that, but it's more "work" and as I've already said, technology is supposed to let us do more with/in less.

I am thinking more like for debates....You were in the midst of a debate on P & R....You leave the house for 5 hours.....All the threads in which you had your debates either are lost on the 2nd and 3rd pages of the forum or maybe when you left the house the discussion was on page 3 of the thread and now it is on page 18 (and you got tagged on page 4).....

But it could also work outside of P/R too.

In what sort of instances would you see that as useful? Couldn't you just PM the member yourself, saying something like "hey, I know you have a lot of experience with X, could you weigh in on my topic here: link ?".

I don't think anyone (unless seeking immigration help) PMs a member letting them know to carry on the discussion....Hey Penguin, it's been 4 hours and you still didn't answer my question on why you support X Politicians economic policy....That would be weird.
