The Occupy Wall Street movement officially spread to Oklahoma City on Monday as more than 100 people gathered in a downtown park with plans to stay for at least three days.

“Occupy OKC stands in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street and the occupy groups in our country and around the world,” said Kaley Morelock, one of the organizers of the event in Kerr Park.

...

Guthrie attorney Jay Trenary, who also helped organize the event, said Occupy OKC has no leaders but will be driven by the consensus of its participants.

“It's a true grassroots effort,” Trenary said.

...

Trenary obtained a three-day permit for the group to occupy Kerr Park, and said that permit may be extended on a day-by-day basis. Organizers brought in a portable toilet for participants, who may erect tents and use bullhorns during their stay, Trenary said. Some brought hammocks and sleeping bags to the park, which was ringed with signs featuring mottos of the movement.

About 300 people attended the group's organizational meeting last week in Kerr Park, said Trenary, who expects the crowd to grow in the coming days.

...

Trenary, a Republican, said the effort isn't based on conservative or liberal political agendas.

“I don't think anyone here is just outright anti-corporation, although some may be,” Trenary said.

“One of my biggest concerns is the undue influence of large money in the political process,” he said. “Campaigns seem to be determined by who can raise the most money, and politicians seem to be more reactive to large donors than the mass of people who weren't able to donate a million dollars.”
