Hi All,

Anyone aware of latest on BD Departure Baggage Rule and US Arrival Baggage Rules? I was actually wondering how much of my wife's gold ornaments can she bring in with her? Would it make any difference, in terms of this, if I accompany her to US? Will be helpful if anyone can provide me any information/links.

Thanks!

Man, are you some Prince who would be coming with tons of gold?

Apart from Joke, I think she can wear as much ornaments as she can, no restrictions on that.

She can carry ornaments that are justifiable. I've see someone coming back with 20 troy ounce of worth of gold ornaments without raising any eyebrow.

Theoratically you accompanying her is not supposed to make any difference, but your US passport would give a different impression to the airline agents and of course confidence to your wife.

Wish I could give you a definititive answer !!!

Haha...thanks for your reply. I wish I was a prince, however you know how it is when you get married in our sub continent! :) My wife obviously do not intend to wear those on her journey but want to carry in person. I was looking for CBP and Dhaka airport rules but couldn't find any definitive answer. Wonder what the other couples did?

Usually the number of bags is determined by the airline, not the airport. For example, I fly Continental airlines, as a regular passenger, you are allowed one checked baggage for free and a second for a price. However, as a frequent flyer, I am allowed TWO checked bags for free. So, I would check with the airline first, then check your outbound airport to see if they have any additional rules. If you are bringing personal items which you owned for a period of time (I believe one year), there should be no customs fees. Customs doesn't charge you based on how much you bring in, they charged based on what your bring in, if its personal items, the intent for bringing the items in (for example if you were bringing them here to sell you have to customs).
