My brother (US citizen) does not have a passport - he is joint sponsoring with me my fiance who is Norwegian. Why would you have to send proof of citizenship for the joint sponsor anyway as long as they are a citizen?

Just a question only - perhaps it has been a long day and it is time for bed :)

okay.. so when AOS comes I will possibly have to prove my brother was born in the US?

Yes, that's one of the requirements for Joint Sponsors- proof of citizenship. So you will have to provide same thing.

Yes, that's probably a good idea to sent it along with application for renewal. Still wondering if anybody had same situation and if he has RFE for it?

I renewed my passport by mail without a rush and got it in ten days. I too am a citizen via parents. I'd send in a copy of the expired passport along with a copy of the application for passport renewal. Sounds like the USP is your only citizenship document, same as mine, so keep it current and safe.
