Hello! Good day to all. I would just want to ask those who have been petitioned by their parents who are Lawful Permanent Residents of US, under F2B Category, unmarried sons and daughters over 21 years old.

I am 24 years old, and still single. Right now I am looking at the Visa Bulletin for October 2011 and they are processing petitions filed as of May 1, 2001. As what I have predicted, within a year, they can process at most 2years of filed petitions.

My father is about to enter the US this month. As soon as he is settled there, he will file his petition for me while he's still an LPR. Does anybody know any trend of the processing times? Or anybody here been petitioned under F2B and how long did you exactly for the visa to be approved?

Thank you so much.

PS. 2 and a half months of filed petitions processed within a month is already okay for me. I just want to have ideas about the waiting times for F2b category.

10 years is as good a guess as any.

If your parent(s) don't become USC the time until you get your visa will be about 10 years. If they become USC then the time changes, not always in a positive way, but at that point you could get married.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

It has nothing to do with how many petitions they can process within a month. It has to do with how many visas are permitted to be issued in each category per year, and how many people are waiting in line ahead of you. Nobody can know for sure what will happen to the advancement of the cutoff dates in the future. Right now they're moving faster than 1 month for every new visa bulletin. Other times they move slower, and occasionally they even retrogress and move backwards.

FWIW, the bad economy works in your favor in this case. When the economy is bad and unemployment is high in the US then a lot of people don't apply for visas when their priority date becomes current. Those visa numbers eventually become available for somebody else to use, which makes the cutoff dates advance faster. A lot of economists are predicting a long period of recession for the United States.

Oh I see. thank you for this very useful information. I was thinking that the petition my father will have to apply for me will just take about 5-6 years. 10-12 years is too long and I could not get married at that time. Right now in the visa bulletin, under the Married sons and daughters of US Citizens, the petition date being processed is still in the year 1992.

The Long period of recession gave me somehow a "new hope" that I could get the chance of getting a visa earlier than 10 years.

thank you so much.

If my father becomes a US citizen after 5 years, then how long would that be? right now in the visa bulletin, they are processing June 8, 1992 petition date.

Thank you so much for your response.
