As many of you know there is a major dengue outbreak in Pakistan especially in Lahore where my fiancee is currently residing. My fiancee just caught the dengue virus yesterday. We haven`t gotten the interview letter as she just submitted packet 3.5 last Monday. We`re hoping that she`ll get better by the time she receives packet 4. Will a history of Dengue make a impact towards her interview?

Ouch, I feel for you brother. We have Dengue Fever here in Mexico too and luckily I've been able to avoid it thusfar, but many of my friends have had it and well, it sucks. She should get over it in about a week, but it will be a crappy week. I don't think that Dengue will hurt her chances at all because as far as I know it's like a cold and once it's out of your system then it's not contagious. But besides that, how would they even know she had it? Again, like a cold, I don't think that kind of thing would show up on a blood test...

Thanks man your right guess I was being a bit paranoid lol. Anyways this is a bit off topic but do you know of a way to prevent from getting Dengue? I`m planning to travel for her interview. I was hoping to take some repellent but I`m not sure if that will be allowed at the airport.

it is passed person to mosquite then mosquito to person,, to avoid it just avoid the mosquito, it is not passed person to person.

It can be a lot worse the a bad cold. there are several strains of it,, just depends on which strain she has and how good her imune system is. dont want to alarm you but it realy is not something to take lightly.

my soon to be step daughter had it a few months ago. At first doctor wanted to admit her to the hospital. But with some reasurance that her mom would follow full treatment they let her go home. They said if she start to bleed from nose, mouth, eyes, ears or fever jumps bring her to hospital ASAP ,, DO NOT WAIT even a few hours.

She is required to go to the hospital everyday. Her mom will be staying at home all week to provide all the care that she needs as well as taking her to the doctor everyday. We`ll see how her immune system acts up. Its very hard not being able to be there

Even if you could take repellent (which aerosol you can't) different country mosquitoes react different to different repellents (found that out travelling europe). You'd be better off asking someone to bring some to you when they get you from the airport.

Erik.. I just pray she gets well soon.. I'm sorry she got sick.. this is also a worry for me too bcos my husband said that someone he knew also got it a few weeks ago so its also in karachi but probably not as much as other areas. They do spray but idk if they spray like they do in the south here... we saw a weekly truck go by during the mosquito season when we lived in Alabama. Your in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you Eabbas. Lahore has been very busy this month going around from block to block spraying pesticides but even they know that the only way to combat these mosquitoes will be for the monsoon season to end. The good news is that its only a month from now till it ends. Eabaas my prayers are also with you. I hope your husband gets out of AP fast.

Isn't dengue only spread by skeeters?

Anyway, once it's out of your system, you're immune to that specific type (and partly protected against the other three).

Even if you could take repellent (which aerosol you can't) different country mosquitoes react different to different repellents (found that out travelling europe). You'd be better off asking someone to bring some to you when they get you from the airport.
How about electronic repellent?

No. Dengue is caused by virus (for which no approved vaccine exists) of same family as Yellow Fever virus (for which there IS a vaccine); only approved preventives are eliminating the skeeters, and/or preventing them from biting. Edited by Saddle Bronc

I got dengue last year here in New Delhi. The only thing that help with the platelet count is papaya leaf juice. Take the huge leaves and juice them. It makes a bitter dark green liquid that tastes terrible. but it helps with the dengue for sure, especially since there are no medicines you can take for dengue, because pain killers lower your platelet counts.

It sucks, but after 7-8 days she should be up again. after 2-3 weeks she will get her strength back.
