Parsing words, socialist, socialized! If you take all the ppl out there with no health care and put the burden on all the ppl that are employed (paying the bill) I beleive i would be paying more! I got an idea why doesnt everyone that wants socialized (corrected) health care get together and chip in a hundred a month and then give it out to the ones who need it! start your own little health care club, we would see what would happen when a few use it the most and the ones who dont would be a little pissed off! or maybe instead of whining about it, I want this, I want that! get a job that has a decent plan!

You're against socializing? Yet you seem to be supporting the de facto socialization of womens bodies. ;)

Unfortunately that is often easier said than done. Of course its easy to say that the unemployed or those who work multiple, poor wage jobs are simply lazy, but that's denying the complexities of society that seriously limit people's opportunities.

That is ironic. And not in the Alanis Morrisette sense of the word.

Socialist is not the same as socialised.

So who pays for the housewifes? Being a housewife is not a job which comes with great benefits. A single mom can't get to work because there's no government supported childcare and what she earns will not cover it on top of the regular bills, so she can't get those benefits or paycheque to support the child that the state won't let her abort.

Do you not think something is whacked there?

I've also heard no solution as to who is going to pay for the pre-natal care and birthing costs for the women in South Dakota who will be forced to carry these babies to term?

The adoptive parents, max out of pocket for me is 250.00! There are plenty of socialist governments out there

There are?

Socialist healthcare doesn't equate to socialist government.

I see, just a little socialism is good? I see just the part you like.

Not to break your bubble, but it's called socialized healthcare not socialist healthcare and it has nothing to do with socialism but with the fact that in some countries taxpayers prefer to pay for health care only once and not twice like they do in the US: once for yourself in your private plan and once for all the people who can't affoord it through your taxes...

I hope you don't socialize too much, otherwise people might start calling you a socialist (by your logic).:P

As to your plan, I'm fine with that. I have no problem paying for my healthcare only once instead of twice and since I'm already financing state and federal health plans, to which I, as an alien taxpayer, have no access whatsoever, I would finally be lowering my monthly health expenses. Maybe you could do me the favor and vote for someone in the next election who would enable me to do this...

So who pays for housewives? Their husbands.

The problems would all be solved if people started living decent lives.

AHA!! NOW the truth comes out.

Now I know that everything you've said can be disregarded because you're completely out of touch with the real world, prejudiced and living in a little castle in the clouds.

Who the heck are you to say who is living a decent life? "Decent" by your standards sure as hell doesn't encompass either the reality of the US, or the way that a reasoned, thoughtful person lives.

My god, if that wasn't so sad it'd be funny.

Prejudiced? No. You said "housewives". A single mom would only be a housewife if she was MARRIED to a HUSBAND!!

Oh, ok - I forgot. The politically correct term prefered by the right is "stay at home parent", right? In old-fashioned terms, a housewife. And a single mom is, by definition, not a single mom if she's married.

Are you seriously suggesting that only married women can have children, and that's the only decent way to live?

What would you do about the women who got pregnant out of wedlock - you've already determined that they can't have an abortion. Should we just go the whole hog and make it illegal to have sex before marriage? Whilst we're at it, we could make it a mandatory requirement that everybody attend a church service every week.

I feel sorry for people who make bad decisions. If a woman chooses to get pregnant and can't afford to raise a baby, it was a bad decision. If a woman gets pregnant without being married and can raise the child financially, I still feel sorry for the baby because they deserve a daddy, but at least she isn't asking me to pay for it. If a woman gets pregnant and cant afford the child and cant give them the type of home they deserve, the only right thing to do is to put the child up for adoption.

Would that be easy. Absolutely not. If it happened to me, I would first look to my family for support. If it wasn't there, it would be the only decent thing to do. Is living on welfare fair to a child either?

You have to admit, people live like sh*t. They screw around, waste money, cheat on their spouses, lie, steal. Nothing has changed. There have always since the beginning of time been people who made bad choices starting at Adam and Eve. We should help them to lead a better life, not enable this #######.

What about women who don't choose to get pregnant? What was the statistic of women who get pregnant who are using contraception? A significant number, as I recall.

What about married women who get pregnant but either don't want a baby or who aren't in a position to bring one up? Look at this forum for one - the number of recent immigrants who have only one person working, no healthcare, living in a one-bed apartment? What about them? What about battered women - should they stay with an abusive man just to get healthcare benefits from his job to support their pregnancy? Should they even consider bringing a baby into that environment?

If it happened to me, I would first look to my family for support. If it wasn't there, it would be the only decent thing to do. Is living on welfare fair to a child either?

What would be the only decent thing to do?

People may live like sh*t according to your standards, but everybodys are different. Are you now saying that cheaters shouldn't be allowed to have or keep their babies?

You're so narrow-minded. You can't legislate based on the perfect scenario because there are so many people who don't fit into that mold. To enable people to lead better lives, we need to give them the option of choice. Choices that will allow them to move up in the world without being shackled by a baby they can't support and didn't want. You know that widescale adoption isn't an option - how do you solve that?
