Just a thought -- let's say we forced the recovering heroin addict I once saw to have her baby. Let's assume the baby is born addicted -- are all the swarms of pro-life troops going to adopt a baby with an addiction? Don't hold your breath. Are they going to offer welfare and assistance to the child to help it grow up normally? Are they going to volunteer their time and money to ensure its well-being? I'm pretty sure the people who want to make abortion illegal are the same ones making cuts in social welfare programs, espcially those they consider to be cause by someone's poor choices in life, regardless of whether or not this effects innocent children

There is more than one way to throw away a life you know.

You assume people are as cold hearted as say you?

f'ing hell, that was called for???:wacko::unsure:

I suppose her experience day in and day out as a counsellor are invalid?

Ace13 has made comment a couple of times in these threads about how she knows people that have taken in children/babies with difficulties. I haven't seen the same comment made about herself, in essence putting her money where her mouth is. Until that day, her opinion on this matter and the justifications she makes, don't hold an ounce of water with me.

Of course, that's just my opinion. :) Which I'm sure matters about that with her. *shrug*

I would suggest though, Ace13, as you say that you've recently re-discovered your faith and are allowing it to be active in your life, that you not just focus on God's commands for right and wrong, but his love for ALL humanity whether they believe in him or not, (Acts 4:16-17) and treat others accordingly. Again, just my opinion.

Electricity is really just organized lightning.

Well, if the world is full of loving people waiting to adopt...why aren't they?

A lot of people are adopting, but they prefer to adopt overseas. US laws make it too damn difficult. Fact.

I'm not so sure people who have adopted from Russia or China would agree... dunno, seems difficult and sometimes heartbreaking to me. I know some of those kids can have real problems too..... :(

Amen to that, my best friend was rejected as possible adoptive parent because her husband was deemed "too old"-- he's 45!! -- and the sad thing is, they want kids BAD and could care less of race, creed, colour, etc. I am seriously considering adoption, but am afraid of what kind of red tape I will face. And yes, I am interested in adopting "older" kids.

"I don't think abortion should ever happen--even with a rape. I was raped 2 years ago. And this is my son."

Pretty powerful and nobody could argue against her.

And not one pro-choice person ever would argue against her choice and would be happy to let her think the way she chooses. All a pro-choice person would ask is the same courtesy in return. Nothing more. Nothing less.

and how many women will admit to being raped? how many fear that it will be thrown back at them as if it was their own fault, that they asked for it? how many women will admit they were molested, either incestuously or not, for fear they will be branded as dirty or filthy?

it is not a perfect world, by any means... things are better than they used to be regarding reporting a sex crime, but its still a stigma that is very heavy...

it takes a lot to be able to admit such things... in my case, many years of healing and working on it

It took me 8 years to admit to even myself what had happened to me. I cannot imagine that any woman is thinking clearly the next day for the morning after pill to be a solution.

yes, but those anti-abortion people usually don't see us pro-choice people as just that. They think we want to run around like mad and abort all babies. It's a personal choice. period. the end.

Why does it affect you what anyone else does with their body, MissLiss? What difference does it make to your life if somebody else has an abortion? In real terms, it makes more of a difference to you if nobody has an abortion, in the wider sense.

That's what I don't understand about this whole thing. Why the desire to get that involved in someone else's life? Why not live as you feel is right, and let others do the same?

Doesn't affect me what someone else does with their body. DOES affect me what someone else does to a child's body. A child who cannot defend themself. That bothers me. A LOT. And I don't care whether or not the child is developed or not to live outside the womb. It's a PERSON. Someone's baby. Someone's little girl or boy who they decided was not worth living.

Don't let the sunshine spoil your rain...just stand up and COMPLAIN!
