Tips for clearing up potential name hits in advance?

My fiance has an extremely common Indian last name (Singh) so I'm almost 100% certain that we will have to go through additional name checks at the consular stage.

My question is, is there any way we can give the consulate a heads up by preparing now and avoid a possible 221g? He already has gotten his police records from his local police station in India. He also is working on getting his passport clearance certificates. In addition, he has already requested police certificates from the UK and Thailand (as he worked in both of these countries for a year) because I'm almost 100% sure that if we do not provide them up front they will request them later. I've heard the consulates in India commonly request fingerprints from applicants when they are performing mandatory additional background checks. Maybe we can provide his fingerprints will all the rest of our documentation when we are ready to submit packet 3 to VFS.

Also, my fiance's name is commonly transliterated from Hindi (devanagari) to a different romanized spelling than his name according to his passport. I know this won't be an issue for his police records from Thailand and the UK because they went by his passport on all his legal documentation but what should we do about India? Should he get two separate police records and passport clearances according to both his passport name spelling and the other common transliteration spelling?

FYI, I did list the alternate spelling of his name on our I-129F form and his G-325A. Also, I'm not trying to aim this question specifically at other India members but more on people going through the K-1 and had to face a potential name check situation as well as the name translation issue.

Thanks!

I am the petitioner.

It does not matter what you do to be quite honest. The consulate will do whatever it wants to do and they will clear his name with their system. You providing documents upfront to clear his name is not beneficial to them. They have a system set in place and they will do it internally and if they need any further info they will contact you and ask you to provide those documents.

I know you want to escape a possible 221g, but you have to also consider the other aspects of your file.

This is a fiancee visa, your an interracial couple, the petitioner is female, he has worked abroad and your going thru New Delhi consulate. I am sorry you have to hear this but you already have some common 221g material for India besides his name check.

I in no way or form mean harm to you with this, but it's the reality of the situation.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you don't get a 221g during the interview.

Thank you for your honesty.

I already know we are up against a tough consulate. I could have filed our I-129F petition months ago but I chose to do more research and gather more supporting evidence and I'm very glad we did. Even by doing this, we are still preparing ourselves for the possibility of getting a 221g and being placed into AP.

I was simply asking a question that crossed my mind because I commonly see people going through New Delhi being asked to provide fingerprints when a name check is under review.

Again, thank you for the advice, I knew that it was long shot. Thanks for the clarification.

It's actual smart that you did. It's better than filing and then making a mad dash trying to scramble to get these documents and you and I know it's a chore to a lot of these documents in India. It really does test your patience. I'm glad my wife was doing all the leg work for those documents we needed in India as me being born and raised in the USA we are quite spoiled with the great system we have in place for most services. People don't realize how spoiled we are here compared to a lot the other countries throughout the world.

I hope you are the outlier in stats realm of the immigration process for New Delhi and can skirt through without a 221g. I wish this for everyone but we know how diverse other case files can get and how difficult they can be to decipher.

Again, All the best! good.gif

Tough question?

Yes. There is really nothing you can do. The best thing you can do is to give as complete a history as possible...the G-235a...which you already did with the petition. They use this to sort out a persons history during a name check, among other things.

You are going through a high fraud consulate with a common name. You need to accept that and be prepared for it.
