After the interview: More information required

Hi folks!

So after my Syrian fiance's interview in Amman on September 25th, the CO told him "I can't give you the visa today because I need these papers..." then gave him an OF-194 form. It doesn't give us a deadline to submit the documents, it just says that if there is no correspondence regarding the case for 1 year that it will expire.

It asks for:

Federal Income Taxes from Sponsor and Co-Sponsor

I wrote a letter explaining that I did not file in 2009 or 2010 because I did not make enough money, and I only have the IRS transcripts for 2007 and 2008, which I sent with the Affidavit of Support. For my co-sponsor, we sent the TurboTax printouts for 2008, 2009 and 2010, but not the IRS transcripts.

Proof of Military Service Record

My fiance has an exemption slip from the military until April 2012 as he is a full-time student. He is getting a new slip next month that gives him another year (until April 2013). No one from Syria is exempt from military service unless they live outside of the country for more than 5 years then pay a big fee (which is what we are planning on doing). So there is no service record, just the exemption slip that keeps him out of the service for another 2 years...

I'm trying to figure out (especially for the taxes), what EXACTLY I need to send to the embassy. I emailed them for clarification but they haven't gotten back to me yet. Do I need FULL copies of my co-sponsor's tax returns for the last 3 years? Or are the IRS transcripts enough? How can I prove that I didn't file taxes other than simply not having anything to submit to them? Any help would be GREATLY GREATLY appreciated!! I want me fiance to be here and SAFE as soon as possible!!

1) Your co-sponsor has to send IRS transcripts. No exception. He/she filled out turbo-tax, it is not a proof. You can easily order IRS transcripts by calling them

2) Get exemption slip and send it immediately.

Do they want the transcripts or the full returns? Transcripts...not problem! Already have them. Full returns...more of a problem because we don't have the software to print the past years' returns anymore.

Sent in my tax transcripts and one full year of returns about 2 weeks ago. Never got a response from the Embassy.

We've been working on the Army documentation -- have it, but need to have it translated. The translators in Damascus say they are not allowed to translate any military documents without permission from the military. My fiance went to the army office in Damascus who then told him to go to another office (typical). The second office said he has to go to the mukhabarat.

As we all know, the mukhabarat office in Damascus is NOT a place that ANYONE wants to be right now -- especially when you are a young man who is traveling to America and who has not done your military service yet.

Any suggestions on other places to get a military document translated? The translators say they will do it for the right price -- but my fiance is NOT part of the horrible system of bribery and isn't going to do something illegal to get the translation. What else can we do instead of sending him into the mukhabarat office where they will probably detain and torture him like they are doing to so many other people?
