Name Change After N400 and K1 Processing

My name will be changed after the oath, and I will start changing my name on all things official and not so official. Would it be a problem if I start the K-1 petition before my new name is reflected in all the documents? Obviously all my tax documents will be in my previous name, and G325A will have both the names listed, so I would think that should not really delay anything. I'm currently thinking about sending in the K1 packet immediately after I get my passport/SSC and the employment verification letter in new name from my employer. Just would like to know what people think about when would be a good time to send in the packet. And one more thing. There is no waiting time before I can petition for someone after becoming naturalized, right?? Just need to make sure... Thanks.

You cannot send anything before you have become a U.S. citizen. Once you have become a U.S. citizen, the name change form will be attached to your Certificate of Naturalization. These two pieces of paper are all the documents you need to prove that you are a U.S. citizen and that connect your old documents, such as tax documents, to your new name. Since you are only submitting copies with your initial petition, you can theoretically mail everything once you have come home from the Oath Ceremony and have copied your Certificate and the name change document.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I guess I won't even have to wait for the passport then. Thanks, Bob. You rock!
