I've know it's fine to explain this on a separate sheet of paper, but am I supposed to write "see attached" in the box for question 18, or do I at least write "yes we have met within 2 years" then write "see attached". And most importantly, how long can this description be? I was thinking about typing up 2 or 3 paragraphs (maybe a little less than 1 page) trying to be as descriptive as possible and explain how we began talking and lead them up to the time I first flew to her country.

Does this sound about right? Overkill?

What you are talking about is an Evolution of Relationship letter which can and should be included in the package. For the question on line 18. they just want to know how. Introduced by friends, family, online and what website, at a party, work, school. Keep that answer simple and elaborate in the EOR

My answer fit in the space provided purposely. I didn't want to have an extra page that could be missed and I wanted the all answers to be in one place. Here is exactly how I answered. Hope this helps.

I traveled to Nigeria to be with my fiance from ___ to ___ by airplane. While in Nigeria, I spent time with his father which is his only surviving parent, his family and friends. During my visit his father was pleased with us and gave us his blessings for our marriage plans. I have known my fiance for 2 years and 10 months.

It's amazing...this is one of the few questions I've asked that get a wide array of answers instead of one "correct" answer. Some people say be as brief as possible and just tell them where you met in person, other people give 3 paragraph letters with dates and a real "evolution" of the relationship.

It would seem to make sense to be brief and make your answer fit the box......but the visajourney k-1 example forms section says:

"4. Declaration of how you met in person in the last two years. This should be a single typed page attachment regarding question 18 of the I-129F. Make sure to sign and date it."

Why is this the first i'm hearing of an Evolution of Relationship letter? I don't see in on the VJ guides. Is this just something you decided to do?

I had never heard of a evolution of relationship letter until a few months ago here on VJ. It was never mentioned when I went through the process a couple years ago. It may be important in a very few consulates but I don't think its required for most. Unless its mentioned in the instructions I would not include it.

I also want to point out aagain that in question 18 thtey are asking how you MET IN PERSON, not how you initially met (on-line or whatever). I think most are giving a lot of information that is not being asked or needed for this question.

Evidence of relationship is provided at the interview. There are a very few consulates where "front loading" of the petition package with evidence of relationship information is necesary.

Do whatever you are comfortable with. If just a few sentences in the box provided makes you nervous, then type a couple paragraphs on a supplement sheet. Either way, it won't be an issue.

In the past 2 years my girlfriend and I have met like 3 or 4 times. We originally met each other in 2005 when I was studying abroad in Japan (would I need to mention that though, considering that they are only asking about the last 2 years). Also, we don't really have a good reason as to why we met up in the last 2 years. We just met up because we love each other and all those times each of us was on a temporary visitor status visa.

The above is so wrong. They don't care how you first got together or know of each other......ONLY as stated, Describe the circumstance in which you both met IN PERSON within the last two years.

That's it, period. Save the relationship or evolution (I did this also) for the interview.

Two sentences max. Yes that's all I put down, two sentences.
